here’s an interesting question.
Trump claims to have been audited by the IRS every year since… who knows?
That strongly suggests that Trump has been forced to file “amended returns” to account for discrepanies found during the audits.
So did Trump file amended New York State returns when the numbers on his federal returns changed? (and was he required to do so?)

It probably won’t be requested because Chairman Neal is trying to prove in court that the Federal tax returns are being requested out of Presidential review and not just to embarrass Trump. Accepting the State returns could throw the argument for the Federal returns out the door.

And this is how it is done. States should be passing legislation to codify all of those norms that turned out to be just guidance: tax returns are government property, anti-nepotism laws for elected officials, etc.

Mr Neal…the caveat king… it’s as though slow walking this thing is somehow beneficial to the outcome rather than exposing the malfeasance that will surely be found in these dicuments.
