Eighty posts and nobody has discussed the spurious “1599 Project” yet?
I’m familiar with the NYT’s 1519 Project, of course, and I assume this was some sort of reactionary riff on the theme. But I looked at 1599 “history” (well, the Wikipedia page as a starting point), and I don’t see much that relates to preventing fraud, or defending the rights of the legitimate responsible people, or whatever else the robocall funders might claim to be protecting.
I do see the Kalmar Bloodbath, and the Åbo Bloodbath, and plenty about the Earl of Essex leading sixteen thousand troops to prevent Ireland from governing itself and choosing its own leaders. Those seem more appropriate references.
I suspect climate change is the reason that blue ice is becoming more common up there. The absence of bubbles, and the blue ice, are more common further out in the lake with the deeper water, away from shore wave action. It’s thought that one of the reasons it is becoming more common near shore is the higher water levels. And then once it forms, wind and waves break it into those sparkling piles.
Down here in Kenosha we don’t have anything like that, but we’ve had our own mini icebergs. The year of the freeze over, there were some as large as boats - 12-20 feet high and at least that long. It was quite a sight to see.
If you read the tweet containing a segment of his interview, you can actually feel some kind of sympathy for the guy. For one thing, he seeks to render aid to an injured party and, for another, he conveys his sense of disbelief that an officer is getting tased and seeing “death in his eyes”. You half expect the voice of a narrator to interject proclaiming ”It was at this very moment he knew, he fucked up.”
His expressions of regret for not have come to the officer’s assistance carry an expression of guilt (if not outright shame). By all means prosecute him, but if that segment cover the worst of his actions, he is far from the worst of the specimens that stormed the Capitol on that day. In fact, he could serve as a decent witness in any case against Officer Fanone’s assailants.
I vividly remember you sharing your daughter’s ordeal with us and your own palpable and exceptionally relatable anxiety over the helplessness you experienced owing to being apart and unable to offer any more than moral support. As a parent of three teenagers, it struck me deeply to think that if not for their more recent year of birth, I too could experience such devastating emotional turmoil first hand.
Your daughter is on to something with this:
But the better solution, of course, would be to stay home and isolate when sick with a respiratory illness. We need to oblige employers to offer proper sick day allotments and show them that compelling sick employees to show up for work is, in the end, a wasteful drag on productivity that only serves to make others sick and unproductive.
Worse still, without a vehicle waiting at the first passable road on the Canadian side and depending upon where you landed, you are looking at anywhere from a twelve to twenty day hike to get beer.
Now you’ve sent me on a nostalgic trip down memory lane… how about the woman who they claimed had been sexual assaulted by someone who “looked like Robert S. Mueller III”, in Washington, DC on a day Mueller was in court in NYC, for jury duty.
Another episode in the annals of dumbassery. Suppose you rob a bank knowing you have no real chance at any kind or take. Not much money in it. You still get all the heat and the beat for robbing a bank. The Judge doesn’t give a shit that you just got peanuts. You’re going up for the same bit that the guys who go after the big bucks do.
So these two dip shits sent 5500 robo calls to a hopelessly Blue state with near 20 MILLION people living in it. Even these dumb asses had to know that if all 5500 had the desired affect NOTHING would change. It’s a drop in the barrel kind of thing BUT…they get the full heat and beat they would if they sent out 5 million robos ( which might change things ) .
One of the folks close to these idiots that was contacted by the media said “they’re fucked” and another said "Burkman is playing Russian roulette with the rest of his life. Agreed.
Until Rump was defeated, I could count the number of GOP communications I received on one hand. I just never got them.
Now I get a Rump robocall daily.
