NRA Looted Its Foundation To Cover Cash Hemorrhage, DC AG Alleges | Talking Points Memo

District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine sued the NRA Foundation on Thursday, alleging that its higher-profile sister organization would loot the charity for funds.

“[LaPierre] and other NRA members told the Investment Committee that it was not a good time to hire any sort of outside auditor or conduct any of the requested research,” Racine alleged.

Nope. No red flags there. When someone tells a cop not to look in their trunk it’s just common courtesy for the cop to agree.

Coordinated lawsuits? Very nice.
I like that LaPierre et al. are going to be shown as a bunch of fat cats living large off the $25 donations from the bitter rural poor. Show them they were played for suckers.

To shamelessly steal: “When’s a good time to hire an outside auditor?”
“How about never? Does never work for you?”

Nothing to see here, folks. Just keep moving along.
They were simply emulating Trump’s approach to nonprofit charitable foundations - no profit for the foundation, charity to the founder.

”NRA Looted Its Foundation To Cover Cash Hemorrhage…”

Finally – after decades of senseless gun carnage, the NRA is responsible for a hemorrhage that kills it!

Ironically, may be the best thing to happen for gun rights in a long time, if money is going to ensure them rather than to line pockets.

I do hope that these lawsuits are able to show members that their dues amount to a gift to the 1% before the NRA is able to use the suits to fundraise itself a another boatload of FU money off them

So is the NRA going to have to pay royalties to the Trump Charity for stealing their playbook?

Man, when it rains it pours…the leadership of the NRA really broke the law badly, and took advantage of all the 2nd Amendment types who donated to it. Hopefully, those same people realize that the criminals were running the NRA, and this has nothing to do with gun rights. But, this is the same thing Trump did, and they blew that off…it’s also the same thing they accuse the Clinton Foundation of doing despite its clean record. So, I really wonder how they will come down on this…the lawbreaking is pretty clear at this point, but their heads are so far up the Republican and NRA asses that it’s hard to say which way they will look at this.

This also will hopefully portend a general review of charitable organizations in the future, odds are this kind of abuse is rampant in certain areas. We really need to have more oversight on all the ways the wealthy hide away their money and cheat on their taxes, they take so much from the system and screw over the rest of us in the process.

The article keeps referring to the NRA but not to its actual full name, which is the National Rifled Association.

In my youth I was a Boy Scout.

Most of the kids in my Troop had some sort of connection with the NRA.

$$$$$$$$$$$ does things, don’t it?

This is the kind of civil suit that lays out the predicates very neatly for a later criminal case. After the defendants have lost the ability to loot their employer further to pay for even more lawyers.

“Who do they bail on?”

Sort of a “The Year 2020” type of question…

It looks like the NRA Foundation learned their SOPs from the T rumpp Org. Birds of a feather thing…

It’s a lot easier and “cheaper” (if you ignore the lost tax revenue) to audit working moms than multi-million dollar organizations with access to high-powered lawyers…
