NRA Board Members Demand Independent Probe Of Grift At Gun Group | Talking Points Memo

Four members of the National Rifle Association’s board of directors sent a letter on Tuesday demanding that the gun group hire outside investigators to probe accusations of financial impropriety at the nonprofit, in the latest sign of fracturing at the country’s premiere gun lobby.

Rarely is the circular firing squad metaphor so apt.

I’d be happy to do it for the small price of $10,000,000

I’m in for twenty bucks. “Was there grift?” “Yes, bigly yuuuge.”

I am shocked that the NRA would even consider not taking this step. Are they trying to hide something? I wonder what it could be.

More likely, “if there was a grift, did I get my share?”

“With this degree of scrutiny and transparency, the Board can fulfill our legal obligations, remove all doubt regarding our Association’s direction, and allow us to return to our mission of protecting our Second Amendment,” the letter reads.

“Our” Second Amendment? It’s as if it only belongs to them.

I’d go for a percentage commission deal. God only knows how much money these bums were socking away.

That won’t be for at least a week or so.

Exactly, I wonder what’s the exact wording of their non-profit charter?

And then there’s this part:

Addressed to NRA President Carolyn Meadows, the letter comes from four members of the nonprofit’s 76-member board. NRA chief Wayne LaPierre has reportedly beenclamping down on dissent on the board by stripping members of their access to key committees and purging others deemed disloyal.

Wayne has the Republican playbook memorized, along with the Trump footnotes.

Duty of Care is one of four primary functions of non-profit boards. (Look the rest up)

When articulated this way, these board members are, and likely under the advice of council, invoking their rights to protect themselves from personal liability. Their Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance will protect their own personal fortunes if they welcome an investigation under this light.

This says a lot. They NOW realize the corruption is likely far deeper than they thought, or were willing to acknowledge publicly (doesn’t mean they didn’t passively go along in the past), but they are now calling for an investigation to protect themselves, and, cause their insurance provider to protect them should wrongdoing surface.

This is CYA. Not some sort of epiphany.

This story is hilarious.
Unintentionally, but still . . .

When the organization is caught self-dealing and overly compensating employees either with pay or reimbursement for business expenses, the group pissing into the tent asks for an investigation the group will pay for. If I were them, I would want an investigation and audit done by an independent, not paid for by the tent group. I think the NYAG is already doing that. Why not help them in their investigation by sharing what you know and demand other board members do likewise?

Methinks Wayne has way overplayed his hand on this one. And who would have thought that Ollie North could plan and implement a successful coup? Not me!

At this rate, there are going to be more board members than members.

If ammosexuals wanted to return to “our mission” they would be promoting gun safety, like it did when it was first established.
