Originally published at: ‘Not Life or Death for Us’: DC Officials Push for Budget Fix in CR or Out of It
Despite their reluctance to fix a $1.1 billion hole they blew in Washington D.C.’s budget last March, House Republicans are now proposing filling the gap in their new continuing resolution. “I’ve been very vocal in trying to get that included,” Rep James Comer (R-KY), chair of the House Oversight Committee, said of the funding at…
Republicans are now proposing filling the gap
With debt, I’ll bet.
I admit it’s nice to see Republicans are somewhat interested in keeping our nation’s capitol city from physically deteriorating while the world watches.
If they can’t keep the city up, what’s the hope for their federal programs?
Except if Republicans fix this budget then DonOLD can’t complain that a female black mayor isn’t smart enough to run the city.
Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA) asked Comer how the money was left out of the Republicans’ spending legislation in the first place.
“No one has ever explained that to me,” Comer responded, chuckling.
Chuckling about depriving a municipality of over $1 billion of its own tax revenue?
That should be all that needs to be said about the majority.
Trump UK presser with Starmer:
Inflation is virtually nonexistent as you know. We are taking in trillions of dollars from tariffs.
Um, macroeconomists have questions about that inflation number, as well as the failure to mention that it’s American firms and households who pay the tariffs. Perhaps the biggest irony, however, was just the situation. Brexit has been the biggest economic policy cock-up in Europe this century, crushing many parts of the British economy. Starmer looked almost relieved that Trump’s tariff legacy is guaranteed to do even bigger self-harm to the US economy.
Taxes that we raised in the district were cut from our approved budget, which forced us to cut services including the pay raises that our police officers are due until this October.
Taxation without representation is …
Isn’t fixing all the bad stuff they put in their last bill just letting Rs get away with giving the rich their tax cuts without people seeing the impact, while accelerating the deficit which Rs will just weaponize later?
I know we should feel compassionate, but I feel like Rs just factor it in and go even harder with their proposals. Maybe we should just win an election first?
The experience outside the US media bubble is quite different from how it feels inside. In Europe, the news is usually something shocking that the Americans have now done. In China, it’s thanks for ceding us new opportunities, like middle-class travel everywhere but the US and a zero-tariff policy to help commodity exporting countries, particularly poorer nations such as the 33 countries in Africa with diplomatic relations with China. In the US, there is this eerie calm. People rarely talk openly about politics and the vibe is kind of like East Germany in the 1980s, when one party dominated. East Germans eventually learned to protest and push back, however, and good-bye Erich Honecker in 1989. I’m confident Americans will find their voice, but it may still be a while.
Despite the hurt, Dems need to let the government shut down. Make the Rethugliklans dig themselves out of their own graves – for once!
@ arrdubya Rethugliklans have NEVER had to own their own shit. Dems have always bailed them out for a greater good. But those days are over.
Trump’s cabinet members, often simulacra themselves, need to worry that Albania has already appointed the world’s first AI cabinet minister. By all accounts she is doing a better job than Hegseth.
Albania’s AI Minister addresses parliament for the first time The virtual official named Diella said she is not here to replace people — only to help them. As a reminder, Albania became the first country in the world to appoint an AI as a government minister.
Totally O/T but all the right wing websites are now
lamenting that all the news is about Jimmy Kimble and nobody is talking about poor Charlie Kirk
I’m i’m over this story.I’m tired of hearing about it.The media is totally try to sweep charlie kirk’s killing under the rug abd focus on this asshole.
You made that
Following Kirk’s assassination, Republicans sour on direction of the country, new AP-NORC poll finds
The share of Republicans who see the country headed in the right direction has fallen sharply in recent months, according to the September survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Today, only about half in the GOP see the nation on the right course, down from 70% in June. The shift is even more glaring among Republican women and the party’s under-45 crowd.
Overall, about one-quarter of Americans say things in the country are headed in the right direction, down from about 4 in 10 in June. Democrats and independents didn’t shift meaningfully.
Does MAGA know that Trump’s “trillions” are coming from them in the form of inflationary prices to pay the tariffs?
Nah, inflation is caused by democrats.
In this case, democrats not magically stopping republicans from pillaging the country on behalf of oligarchs.
