Republicans took over the majority in the General Assembly in the mid terms in 2010. This was the panicked response to Barak Obama winning the Presidency in 2008. North Carolina still has active KKK covens operating in the Central and Eastern part of the State, and having a black man ( or partially black man) holding high office was just not acceptable to the bigots and dumbasses whose white skin is the only accomplishment they can claim in their entire lives.
