Originally published at: North Carolina Dems Denounce ‘Astonishing’ State Supreme Court Move To Block Certification Of Dem Victory - TPM – Talking Points Memo
Democrats and voting rights groups are sounding the alarm after the North Carolina Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked the state election board from certifying the Democratic winner of a Supreme Court race. The court will decide in coming weeks whether to throw out tens of thousands of votes and thereby overturn the result of the…
It seems that votes are becoming advisory, subject to approval by the class of people who have money to burn on lawyers.
So given that ballots are supposed to be secret and the dispute is with the voters’ registration in the various towns or counties they live in, how do they know how to amend the vote totals unless they have kept every ballot married to its envelope (are these only mail-in ballots?) Also, do they throw out the votes for all of the other races on those ballots, statewide and local, and re-open all those contests even though they’ve already been certified and the winners seated in their various offices? How far will they go to cheat one Democrat out of an elected office?
OR it’s just good old fashioned FASCISM.
We don’t want the lib bitch in our club. WTF are you gonna do about it?
Remember with the Republicans it is either projection or confession.
Hardly “astonishing”.
Just normal behavior in Wingnuttistan.
Yeah, should have gone with “expected, despicable, and anti-democratic”
The bald-faced audacity, the arrogance…at least the Repubs are finally being upfront about what I have always believed: they simply will not accept a Democrat as the legitimate winner.
Our democracy is being torn down, and the mainstream media concentrates exactly on what Trump wants, annexing Canada and declaring the Gulf of America. Meanwhile, elections are under attack and billionaires have our fate in their hands. But, as long as Trump offers shiny, clickable objects, the media is happy to oblige him. The media is complicit. Money is bringing us down.
It’s been said many times since this scheme was announced, it is not the voter’s fault if info is missing on their registration. It is not the voter’s responsibility to make sure their board of elections has their correct info on file. And Hell and Tarnation if one was allowed to vote in prior elections then their vote should be counted in this election.
Absolutely gobsmacked. WHO THE FK do these aholes think they are???
“It would make it very difficult for our state to ever get to finality in our elections whenever a candidate has the resources like Judge Griffin does”
It will make it impossible when Democrats start doing it too. Which is inevitable.
Money is not speech.
Money is power.
Emphasis added
They can and will steal elections.
They can and will cancel elections.
They can and will control the press.
They can and will declare martial law over the protests.
They can and will employ a secret police force to enforce their rule.
They can and will make opponents disappear.
They can and will build detention centers to house their opponents.
They can and will tire of feeding and housing all those prisoners.
They can and will turn their prisons into extermination camps.
They can and will rule the world with an iron fist for a thousand years.
They can and will get away with it this time.
I’m wondering the same thing.
It’s interesting to see that no other statewide office candidates in North Carolina are wanting to throw out the 60,000 votes.
These fucking scumbags.
Republicans would not be this aggressive if there was any real opposition, but after years of conservatives infiltrating the democratic party and conservative money on the outside compromising democratic leadership we are now faced with a handful of left leaners in the democratic party with zero power to protect us and all the conservative democrats and republicans aligned against the needs of the majority.
Does this stay with the state supreme court, or does it get taken up by the SCOTUS? Imagine saying that like it’s the remedy for anything…
I’m always irritated and distressed about how the SCOTUS refuses to protect voting-rights, either by ignoring gerrymandering, or ignoring other schemes to disenfranchise or nullify various groups. Their starting premise is that there are other principles at stake that are more important than counting actual votes and making for a legitimate outcome. I have low expectations. This might be the opening thread for the eventual dissolution of the country. And if not this, something else will come very soon.
This is realpolitik. Politics is not a genteel parlor game. You have to fight for the vote at election time and fight everyday for those who vote for you. People elect politicians to do nasty things to people they dislike, and can’t do themselves.
If not both.
