North Carolina Board Shuts Down Bid To Remove Cawthorn From Ballot, Citing New District Map

The North Carolina State Board of Elections on Thursday informed the voters fighting to get far-right Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) booted off the ballot that their challenge to his candidacy was no longer valid, due to the new district map that was established by a state court this week.

Why would the NCGOP even waste the time to try and polish this turd?

That’s an easy enough fix. Find a handful of plaintiffs who live in the newly redrawn district.

Because he’s the turd they have, not the turd they want? Or something about redrawn maps, and now we’ll see what kind of folk live in his new district.

It’s their reason for being. They can’t help it. Defective chromosomes or something.

Pathetic. As if potentially everyone in North Carolina was not impacted by having a traitor seditionist as a Congressman. Cawthorne is a traitor statewide, and nationwide for that matter. The “district” he’s running in is irrelevant.

So file it from his new gerrymander! Seems simple enough.

Does this mean Cawthorn withdrew as a candidate and will be deleted in 24 hours?

Further Proof ::: North Carolina GQP does not believe in accountability or the democratic/legal process.

Because the GQP can’t fail. It can only be failed.

A US Representative does not need to live in the district he represents (just the state), but plaintiffs must? Sucks.

The Constitution requires that Members of the House be at least 25 years old, have been a U.S. citizen for at least seven years, and live in the state they represent (though not necessarily the same district). And Article VI, clause 3 requires that all Members take an oath to support the Constitution before they exercise the duties of their office. I

An excellent point, @scoutmom–until this, I’d never thought to consider gerrymandering WITNESSES before…  :face_vomiting:  :face_vomiting: :mask:

It was NEVER going to happen. If it wasn’t something as ticky tacky as this it would have eventually come down to, “let the voters decide.”

Cawcaw is nothing but a troll. He’s brought nothing to his district. He’s missed more votes than just about any congresscritter. He missed a bunch of important votes to get married. 6 months later, the marriage is kaput. I wonder why…

Does he raise a lot of money for the party the way Margie three-names does?

Marge raises money for herself, not the party. Cawthorn seems pretty lazy about fundraising, as he pulled in only about 1/3rd of Marge’s 2021 haul. But they’re all pikers compared to Katie Porter, who outraised even Marge by a pretty substantial amount and has a whopping $16.1 million cash on hand as of 12/31/21.

If they didn’t. they’d get death threats.

Even if Cawthorn is ultimately allowed to run in the new district, I’ll still consider it a win that he had his lawyer raise a “Confederate amnesty” as his defense.

The NC GOP wishes cawcaw would roll himself into an open manhole or something. He stole NC-11 from markymeadows’ rightfully appointed seatwarmer, and now he’s trying to carpetbag* over to an adjacent district that was distinctly mandered for a connected local not named cawcaw.

*the R bias of his old vs. his targeted new district seems to change from week to week depending on who last had a swing at the redistricting map, so he may or may not follow through with the carpetbag
