Noem Settles It: Trump Admin Will Sacrifice Agriculture at Alter of Mass Deportations

As we’ve discussed, the Trump administration has been flip-flopping for months on the matter of whether the Department of Homeland Security will target farm laborers, as well as workers in the hotel and restaurant industries, with ICE raids. Obviously, there are political reasons not to do it. Rural parts of America, where farms are, tend…

I’m going to give Noem credit for her stance. You can’t just go partial Nazi, you have to go all in. And she is doing this. Adolf would be proud.

There is a middle ground, however, that would allow her to maintain full Nazi status while also helping the farmers. Round up all of the undocumented farms workers, throw them in the Homeland concentration camps, and then lease them back to the farms for pennies on the dollar. This why the farmers get their fields tended to, a grateful American public continues to get cheap produce, and Noem can continue to wear her swastika proudly.

Please don’t blame the messenger. If I am thinking that this could work, I am sure the Nazis are too.

If you’re one of the 320,000 undocumented immigrants working on farms, then she’s gunning for you.

“And your little dog, too!”

Like knocking your fucking head against a wall trying to tell morons in the SCLMSM who kiss Trump’s ass low key every day - STEPHEN KAPO MILLER’S POLICIES WERE ALWAYS GOING TO WIN OUT. MAGAts will only stay loyal if “those people” get hurt. They’ll tolerate any abuse to see it done, especially when other fissures get bigger every day.

The typo in the headline is driving me crazy.

As an added bonus it saves both the employee and employer FICA taxes which can hasten the collapse of those communist, socialist, Marxist programs.

Yeah, it should be the “Tramp” administration.

“There aren’t going to be any safe places where we’ll tell criminals, ‘you can go here and be completely safe.’ We’re going to make sure we’re going after those who perpetuate violence, and trafficking and drug trafficking. And go get them and remove them from this country.” (emphasis added)

BUT, as was pointed out earlier in the article, the indiscriminate arrest of “everybody” undermines her statement. If they HAPPEN to catch a violent criminal or trafficker…well, blind squirrel and stopped clock…

“The president has been very clear from the beginning that we are going to uphold the law and follow the law,” she said.

A blatantly false premise that leads to the predictably false conclusion "We’re going to make sure we’re going after those who perpetuate violence, and trafficking and drug trafficking.”

The reality is Noem is going after those who perpetuate violence, and trafficking and drug trafficking being brown or having an Hispanic name.

Noem: “There are no safe spaces.”

Watch what they do and not what they say, at least in this particular case, Everything DHS is doing to round up undocumented immigrants has a twofold purpose; not just increasing deportations but also to send a message to immigrants who haven’t made it here yet.

I bet they’re going to go easy on farm and hospitality workers while keeping up this absolutist language as a deterrent to future immigration. Trump knows how many immigrant workers it takes to keep his resorts functioning smoothly.

What he wants is arrests and deportations in Blue cities to feed his narrative about Dem-run hellholes. The hotel and restaurant workers in those cities may not be safe.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Vowing to bring to justice “the monster who did this,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem lashed out Wednesday at the person who stole the hair extensions from her head.

The DHS secretary first noticed that her voluminous tress enhancements had gone missing while she was dining at a Washington, DC restaurant Tuesday evening, sometime between the appetizer and entree.

At the White House, Vice President JD Vance theorized that an “evil undocumented immigrant” had purloined Noem’s synthetic mane.

Speaking to reporters, Vance said, “First they took our jobs, then they ate our cats and dogs, and now they’re stealing our hair.”

Normally, I can read right by a typo and, even if I see it, ignore it. Everybody makes mistakes. This time, however, I had to read the headline a couple of times to understand what it was trying to say. It was some mind-altering shit.

Yeah, I can see why it would bother you. Have you considered asking one of the moderators to altar it? :smirk:

A sudden thought: where are immigrants used “in agriculture”?

Not the big cereal crops, wheat and corn, which provide animal feedstocks and the powders necessary for “ultraprcessed” (that is, America’s favorite) food-like substances. These crops are planted and harvested with machines.

No, human hands are required for picking fruits, collecting vegetables, cutting up carcasses. The “natural” less processed stuff, which is arguably healthier. So the loss of these immigrant hands will mean

  • fresh fruits and vege will become pricier and scarcer
  • meat even more expensive
  • the crappier stuff made from flours, sweeteners, industrial fats, flavorings, and stabilizers will be all that many Americans can afford

What does Bobbie Junior have to say about that? Let them eat roadkill?

It’s a double whammy, because many of those crops on U.S. farms that are handpicked by immigrant labor are only a portion of the total sold in stores. The rest are imported, and will be hit by Trump’s idiotic tariffs.

Around 70% of fresh tomatoes sold in the U.S. are imported from Mexico. A little over half of all fresh orange juice and concentrate are imported from Brazil. All bananas are imported, virtually all coffee is imported.

Reduced immigrant labor will probably be most noticeable in higher meat prices due to raids on meatpacking plants. Much of the other increase may end up being from tariffs. It’s like Trump studied a manual on the best way to make food more expensive!

Honest question. Assuming this percentage (and the data for other vegetables and fruits) is calculated on the basis of data gathered from supermarkets and such and/or from distributors and importers, do these calculations take into account locally grown and distributed produce, and homegrown produce? I’m not suggesting doing so might radically alter (altar?) this statistic, but I’m still curious.

Two notes. Here in western MA supermarkets, I happen to have noticed that a lot of out-of-season tomatoes (pretty good ones, at that) sold in supermarkets are imported from Canada – another tariff hit. The many small farms and orchards that sell fruit and vegetables in my region, which includes the Hudson and Connecticut River Valleys, rely on immigrant labor for harvesting. Labor shortages had put them in crisis mode even before ICE started rounding up these farm workers.
