Concerning the quote you posted…trump does not “revere… -snip-…the sacred principles at the hesrt of our country”. If he did he would never have disputed the election results or tried to prevent the transfer of power by force. Thankfully trump committed his crimes in full public view so the damning evidence is there for all to see. My fond hope is to see him in prison and his wealth forfeited.
I see it a little differently.
Everyone knows he was at fault, but no one wants to be the only one going out on a limb to say so. Even Mitch’s about face with voting not guilty and then lambasting him shows this; the Turtleface wants him to be punished, but wants someone else to do it so he doesn’t have to suffer any of the consequences.
They would have been better off had they banded together and decried his actions in unison, but each was too interested in their own skin to do so. This is why the few who did have the courage to stand up and do what they knew was right should be lauded, however horrible their previous actions as conservatives may have been.
The Rs need more Mitts and fewer Pences, if they’re going to survive the fallout from this, but they’re too busy having state legislatures try to shun those few to avoid having them all go down with the ship.
The most important factor will be the reaction of their wealthy donors and whether or not they want to be associated with the actions of Trump’s ignorant horde. With Mitch and the few who voted to convict signaling virtue, those donors may think twice about how much hassle one orange moron is worth.
At the end of the day, the MAGA people aren’t ever going to vote D, so donors will coalesce behind candidates that don’t make them look like the losing side of the civil war. Either the redhats will fall in line behind them, or they will split into a faction and ruin the Rs electoral chances by sitting out.
Either way, that orange gander is cooked.
Not sure where exactly we differ, because I agree with all that. I don’t know where they go from here. I heard Cruz yesterday trying to explain how it was all Nancy’s fault, because somehow she left the Capitol defenseless or something. He’s more skillful than Trump in trying to sound like he’s saying something rational, but it’s the same I’m-rubber-you’re-glue sort of thing at its core. They can try that stuff against all the Fettermans we’re going to hit them with and I guess we’ll see if it works better than last time.
“Orange gander” … I like that moniker.
I would think the wealthy GOP donors are gonna be looking for a different pawn to shower cash on. Why would they not see trump as damaged goods after all this?
After two impeachments, a violent mob reacting to trump’s explicit directions to assault the Capitol and Senators and defense lawyers vainly trying to place blame for it all on antifa or the democrats and finally most every repub in sight willing to lie their faces off… it’s an epic wonder thst any rational person would support the GOP with money or their vote
Even Karl Rove can see it.
Yep, while they run in circles trying to find goats to 'scape, I’m feeling better about the midterms already.
It may be a short cheer. (Updated to Jan. 2021)
The sound of wifebeaters everywhere:
“Trump, in his statement, claimed that Democrats were actually the ones culpable for driving Americans to violence.”
Trumpism is still alive and well. As of now the fat fuck can still run for federal office. Aside from saving their own asses (‘all politics is local’) the Goopers have so far preserved that. McConnovich threaded the needle by saying Donnie was a bad boy but voting to acquit. The short-attention span crowd will forget his comment by Tuesday. All they will remember is he got off from an unjust accusation over a tailgate party that got a little out of hand.
Or treat him like an ordinary person of colour and beat the shit out of him.
“I always have, and always will, be a champion for the unwavering rule of law, the heroes of law enforcement, and the right of Americans to peacefully and honorably debate the issues of the day without malice and without hate.”
And I am the fucking sole rightful heir to the title of Queen of Castille and Leon, and All of Spain!!! And all of her Overseas Possessions!!!
In light of all the havoc and death the our immediate past “president” has wreaked upon the US and the world over the the past five years, I suggest that we call ourselves the “Never Again Trumpers”
Temporal lobe, Brocca or Wericke areas
It will be interesting to see what impact her following of her conscience will have on the longevity of the career of NM Representative Jaime Herrera Buetler. I have no idea of her past track record, or opinions, or Trump subservience. But unlike Susan Collins, and Murkowski, and Cassidy, she did not hedge her position after the phone call from Trump to McCarthy during the insurrection.
they have always been there. We are not better than that, We aspire to be better than that but we ain’t. Compromise of 1877. Compromise of 2021. Stay vigilant, stay engaged.
our opponents cannot forget the almost 75 million people, the highest number ever for a sitting president, who voted for us just a few short months ago,” Trump said.
But you can forget the 81 million that voted for Biden. So can the GOP. So can ABC, NBC, and CBS.
I’m with you. Intellectually, I knew he’d walk. But to actually see those who ran in fear for their lives on the 6th decide that the violence in support of this traitor was OK still fills me with rage and despair.
Neither does McConnell.
Which also apparently functions as body armor.
