A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Halfway Down The Slippery Slope Occasionally, something emerges from the daily litany of Trump II destruction, corruption, and retribution that helps focus the mind and clarify the stakes. Over the weekend, President Trump responded favorably…

Trump tariff measure scores endorsement from Senate Democrat Tammy Baldwin
One one VERY limited item -
Baldwin, the third-term Democrat who narrowly secured reelection last November in Trump-won Wisconsin, is on board with the president’s executive order closing the so-called de minimis tariff loophole for China and Hong Kong that has long allowed cheap foreign goods to avoid import taxes.
“There is a whole lot of Donald Trump’s reckless trade policy that is wrong and will only jack up costs for working families,” Baldwin told the Washington Examiner. “But on this, President Trump and I agree.”
Closing the de minimis loophole has been among the few executive actions taken by Trump in his second term that has avoided widespread criticism from congressional Democrats
He tried once before, but HE backed down. Items sent individually, under $800 are tariff free.
It is why two distinguished law professors warned in a NYT op-ed today: “We should all be very, very afraid.”
I disagree.
Everyone should be very angry.
Everyone should work very hard to elect Representatives and Senators that will impeach Donald Trump. They should elect Representatives and Senators that will impeach any member of SCOTUS that tries to work sand into the gears of removing Donald Trump.
Everyone should work very hard to inform the uninformed of this casual disregard for everything the Constitution and Declaration of Independence has stood for.
The rest of the world no longer trust us so foreign entities aren’t buying US bonds.
“Processions, meetings, military parades, lectures, waxwork displays, film shows, telescreen programs all had to be organized; stands had to be erected, effigies built, slogans coined, songs written, rumours circulated, photographs faked.” ― George Orwell, 1984
When the Treasury market is no longer a safe haven, we (the royal we) have some serious problems. This could be the start of global sell-off with no known bottom. When are the Rs going to stand up to Trump? I don’t see them doing so until it’s too late.
Yesterday I drove down a particular street in town that has been lined with pro-trump signs and flags, just to see if everything was still up. Nobody had taken down their stuff. Maybe they’d just forgotten, because the signs were up before the election. Or maybe they’re really that blind to their own self-interest.
Good morning. This is an excellent piece on Trump psychology and tariffs.
From article: Do you want to know how he managed to lose money running the only business in existence that has a guaranteed profit margin? With bluster and bullying and promises he failed to make good on and guaranteed deals he backed out of practically before they closed and unpaid bills and bonds and loans not worth the paper they were printed on. Do you know what he was doing as lawsuits flew and judgements came due and his casino empire, along with a sizeable portion of his Manhattan real estate nose-dived into the red? He was flying around at stockholder expense on company helicopters and jets and skipping board meetings and playing golf and calling Page Six of the New York Post to brag about how rich he was and how many people wanted to “do deals” with him. Sound familiar?
Bessent knows that Trump is doing an epic fuck up, that will make it to economics text books. Not sure why Bessent wants his name attached to it. There is nothing for him in this administration, I would have resigned already if I was him.

So, nobody has “standing” to contest the illegal firings of government workers but each individual worker? Sweet. That, and reductions in funding to the Courts and maybe even to the number of Courts, means that your case will come up for its first hearing in … 2047. 'Kay?
Uh, Dumb Blondi, you is unelected too.
