There were mistakes made in some locations that require recanvassing/recounting to correct. It’s not a redo.
No Iowa Winner Declared Yet After Final Results Released, Sanders And Buttigieg Still In Virtual Tie
interesting. Dont neccesarily agree with all of this, but worth a read…
The bigger the election the harder to do. That’s why we have and need experienced party leaders and well informed and vetted delegates. And also why caucuses suck.
Remember what happened to Humphrey.
LOL – now I’m a Russian agent because I point out the rank hypocrisy of the Berne Bros? This is awesome – how much do I get paid, and when do I get the deposit? Should I order the swimming pool now?
Buttigieg is the one who was all-in for Iowa and who hasn’t campaigned much anywhere else.
Sanders was way behind in Iowa until very recently. In early December, Buttigieg had a 5-point lead over Sanders. That vanished.
Your comment feels like nothing more than spin.
After we were told for an entire year that Sanders had no appeal among non-whites, he actually did the best of all candidates among non-whites. Certainly Buttigieg is no threat on that front. (I have no idea what happened to Biden’s support among blacks.)
Because theyare crooked Republicans that’s what they’ll do…
You’re confused by the concept that mocking and denigrating someone for the color of their skin is racist?
Phuq Iowa. Phuq Bernie.
There, I said it.
So that will be two 2020 candidates with a history of plagiarism…
Then recanvass/recount everything. Otherwise you are acting on an assumption that you know where the errors are. It also undermines trust in the process. What if they only recount/recanvass areas won by one particular candidate? This is just not how it should be done.
I get that it’s harder to do, but it’s still the only right way to do it. That’s why it’s so important not to botch it the first time around.
Shorter version of all the hub-bub:
2016 BernieBros: Caucuses are awesome! They are pure democracy! The delegate apportionment represents the heart of true progressives, and the popular vote doesn’t matter!
2020 BernieBros: Caucuses and the way they apportion delegates are horrible and anti-democratic – only the popular vote in the caucuses matters!
What are you trying to accomplish here?
As I understand the rules of Iowa, it’s close enough that Pete or Bernie could call for the recanvas… neither have.
I suspect both think they can work with what they have and a recanvas could change it enough the other gains advantage.
Both are happy with Joe and Liz’s placement and the effect that could have in NH.
They’ve decided to leave well enough alone…
The DNC cannot order a total recanvassing, so that’s why it seems they’re opting to pick the most significant areas where the numbers came in looking more problematic, and I’m assuming may affect the delegate count. A total recanvassing has to be requested by one of the candidates and I think they have to pay for it which may be why it hasn’t happened. Either way, there will always be a big question mark left on the Iowa caucus and how it was conducted. If that’s what people want in the end, that’s what we’ll be left with. I just don’t want to hear people after the primaries are over saying we should have had this race recanvassed when we had the chance if the delegate count comes up hinky later after more hijinks may ensue throughout the primary season.
If Warren hadn’t put a 62 trillion dollar price tag on her single payer plan I believe she would be the front runner. It’s probably to late for her to admit that going single payer all at once is a losing idea and that it should be a goal to be worked toward over the course of her first term. Big phama, the insurance industry and the medical system that is in place now is just too powerful to be changed in one presidential term, regardless of who the nominee is. I hope she augments her meassage fast because Super Tuesday will seriously narrow our choices. She is blowing it at this point because it really is time for a woman to be elected.
Precisely.
The biggest “Bernibro” I know is my sister who is a single mom, working at a job that doesn’t have anything to do with the Masters’ degree she received because she can’t find work in her field and from what I can tell is never going to be able to pay off her student loans even after having declared bankruptcy.
I can guarantee you that the attack on Berniebros pisses her off to the extreme.
The only other candidate she really likes is Warren and she will hold her nose despite that and vote for Biden or Buttigieg if forced, but she definitely perceives them as part of the oligarchy.
No one hates the left more than centrist democrats. In the end, they’d rather Trump win again than poor people get health insurance. All they care about is themselves, their 401k and their taxes just like republicans, they are not on the side of the lower classes. The only difference is they wish there wasn’t as much racism.
What we really mean when we talk about “winners” and “losers” in Iowa are always in relation to expectations. Same with New Hampshire. Sure it is best to be the top vote getter, but vastly outperforming expectations can be huge, as can vastly underperforming.
That’s totally in their court. But if the DNC forces a recanvass/recount it should be done systematically, not selectively.
