No Election Is Safe: Trumpworld Trots Out Bogus Voter Fraud Claims In Newsom Recall | Talking Points Memo

Here we go again.

After almost a year of licking their wounds over former President Trump’s loss in the 2020 presidential election, right-wingers are turning to their usual tactic as polls start leaning toward California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) favor ahead of the recall election against him: sowing doubt over the election process.

These courageous clowns should be called out for what they are: chicken.

A number (substantial) of people predicted these claims, along with the usual aforementioned claimers.

Q: How can you prove an election was fair?
A: A Republican won.

Actually, maybe this is his element. It’s about all he’s got.

Leap in there you unAmerican pieces of trash. Start it up. Make people BELIEVE DAMMIT that only Republican votes count and the rest are ‘suspect’. Come on.

Back to desperation and flop sweat. What else you got?

We should require full video recording of every step in the election process so that we will have a record to go to in order to refute the claims of the right wing nuts.

Have any of these people looked at party registration in California? If eligible voters just vote, the only Republican office holders will be in some parts of Orange County and the Central Valley.

I’m afraid we need to change the recall rules here in California to require more signatures and a bigger entry fee. As it stands now, a recall can be called and pretty much ANYONE can run, which is why there are nearly 50 candidates on the danged ballot. While parties have a bit too much sway, there is something to be said for having a nominated candidates on the ballot. it’s somewhat entertaining, but a waste of state money and a waste of voter’s time.

GTFO! You mean any time a GQPer loses they’re going to cry fraud? Who could have guessed.

I suspect that it will end up being a blowout for “No” on the recall. If so, I doubt any claims of fraud will be echoed anywhere outside of the most whack job conspiracy sites.

I certainly hope the California Republican party is as indiscriminate and persistent in pursuing their campaign to overturn the election as Donnie was.
The prospect of more disciplinary hearings for lawyers and defamation suits really piques my interest.

Witnessess from both parties at every step of the counting isn’t enough for you? Ballots retained for two years post-election under penalty of law isn’t enough? They’ll just cry “fake video!”

The things reactionary viewers will see on the videos won’t be the same as what non-partisans will find. You know, like, “clear evidence of fraud.”

The biggest change needed is to remove the idiotic provision where it takes 50%+1 votes to recall, yet the replacement wins via a plurality (eg. 30% of the votes), and the incumbent is not permitted to appear on the replacement ballot. The recall as structured is a free swing at the incumbent, an I-win/you-lose election. Or just drop the recall option entirely.

The basic message is that the Democrats never win elections. The only way that R’s lose them is if Dems “cheat”.

Of course, when the R’s win elections there is not the slightest hint of fraud, even if they have to sue in a stacked RW court to take an election where they were outvoted by a large margin at the ballot box. Winning an election by gerrymandering the Dem majority out of the electorate in order to win is perfectly legitimate, as well.
