NFL Commissioner Encourages Teams To Sign Colin Kaepernick | Talking Points Memo

Roger Goodell would like to see Colin Kaepernick back in the NFL this season.

The NFL commissioner said during ESPN’s “The Return of Sports” special on Monday that he is encouraging teams to sign the 32-year old quarterback, who hasn’t played the past three seasons. Kaepernick was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 when he kneeled during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.

Maybe Kap needs to be in the Front Office.

Roger Goodell is not (solely) responsible for Kaepernick’s unemployment. That’s the greedy, cowardly owners who refuse to hire him. Goodell is just their paid mouthpiece.

REALLY Rog? You willingly colluded with the ‘owners’ to ruin a man’s career for not ‘standing’ for a symbol. And NOW you see the light? Too little, too late.

Just have the NFL name CK to be the next NFL Commissioner. I’m sure his management and leadership skills off the field are as good or better than Goodell’s. One thing for sure, he has more integrity than Goodell.

Goodell is late…again.

First pay him top dollar for the years he missed while you blacklisted him. Then ask him if he’d like to play again.

“If he wants to resume his career in the NFL, then obviously it’s gonna take a team to make that decision. I welcome that, support a club making that decision and encourage them to do that,”

1 ) Giants

2 ) Steelers

3 ) Saints

4 ) Chargers

5 ) Broncos (that’ll be ‘fun’)

5a ) Dolphins (that’ll be ‘fun’)

I have not watched any football at any level for at least 25 years, so does not make much difference for me. However, from reading about Colin and how the NFL has treated his very mild protest this is just a dollar short CYA move.

@bonvivant, your suggestion is better: Pay him top dollar for three years on the blacklist, then offer him the choice of playing again or taking over as NFL Commissioner. Step down and beg him to replace you.

Looking over top quarterback salaries just now, I figure $100 million is about right. Three times $32 to $35 million.

How about apologizing to kap for blackballing him in the first place

This is a horrible idea out of football for 3 years … and thus 3 years older & rusty … jump back in now? Get cavalierly & derisively trashed if you aren’t a miracle worker?
When you get robbed of the prime of your career, it is not justice to then be given the opportunity to be tossed back in at a delayed date and be expected to “prove” your worth.
Kaepernick could have handled some things differently - but he was simply a guy exercising his freedom of expression - he was under no obligation to “finesse” his actions for political / marketing reasons.

Having lost Tom Brady, the Pats should be first in line. I don’t know if Kaepernick can still play, but the Pats should be willing to give him a good chance to show what he can do.

Goodell doin’ the old ‘soft shoe’.
Cue the song “Tea for Two” in the background.

Kaepernick for NFL Commissioner would seem to be a pertinent gesture.

I will be continuing my 60-year boycott of professional football.

Since Goodell is a complete tool, a spineless spokesman for the NFL owners, the fact he’s stating this in public is an encouraging sign that Kaepernick will get a chance to quarterback in the NFL after all.
