A Newsweek reporter was reportedly fired shortly after inaccurately reporting on President Trump’s Thanksgiving plans.
SHE got fired and the editor got a pass?
Someone wanted to ‘downsize’ staff and saw a chance to do it.
Newsweek is Cowed by Trump. That is the headline.
I’d have to know more but if they required her to file a week in advance they have to expect that this kind of thing can happen. And you have to say “As of such and such a time, such and such an authoritative voice said the president would be doing such and such.” That way it remains factual if something changes. Now they look bad and some poor kid gets fired because they just had to have a story that would have been super-banal and boring if things had worked out as planned. Not an impressive episode.
The trip was supposed to be a secret until after he was on his way back home. She wrote and filed ahead of time an article on his anticipated plans.
If she had known of the planned trip to Afghanistan and wrote about that in an article or on Twitter or otherwise, she would have been in huge trouble. It was an embargoed story. It’s not her fault Newsweek didn’t update her initial article in a timely fashion. They sacrificed her for a higher-up’s mistake.
Too bad Trump can’t be fired for his “inaccuracies”.
What the hell is going on in this f-ing country? No one in a position of responsibility “steps down’” anymore—every one of Trump’s cabinet has been found to be engaged in ethical wrongdoing (at the very least) but not ONE resigns. Stephen Miller is a White nationalist. Sondland has three sexual harassment accusers, I’m not even going to bother listing the crap Pompeo and Mulvaney engaged in. Barr won’t recuse himself from anything. And a lowly Newsweek reporter gets fired for writing a true story that is TRIVIAL and the base cheers the idiotic bully.
When a real news org makes a mistake, they issue a correction and discipline the people involved. When a rightwing news org makes a mistake, they call it Fox News and repeat the mistake until it becomes fact.
Seriously, part of the problem in America is the lack of parity between the so-called “liberal” news that’s run by right-leaning editors who prefer conformist reporters and rightwing news that’s specifically designed to create a false narrative to confuse those right-leaning editors. That’s why we need TPM.
Can’t we just fire Trump?
Please?
In light of the fact, I’ve seen persistent questions raised about the moon landing, let me be the first to put this in motion…I see no compelling evidence the President was actually in Afghanistan.
Given the incessant string of lies emanating from Trump and his entire family, the twitter assault on Ms. Kwong for an alleged “mistake” that ultimately was not of her doing is just typical of the utter dishonesty and hypocrisy of our nation’s “first family.” Truly pathetic.
What about Perry?
Stop writing these goddamn articles and find some news to report. Trump’s whereabouts aren’t news.
There has to be more to this story.
It will be a Good Thing if Newsweek’s action are investigated by reporters. If nothing else, they need to be encouraged to stand up to Trump.
I see no compelling evidence that he is the President.
Just a really bad nightmare.
I recall when a Clinton nominee for attorney general had a nanny tax issue.
I also recall when another Clinton nominee was had her nomination pulled because she went to Cuba on a educational trip.
The Newsweek reporter and editor should have just issued a clarification and put it to rest.
Do NOT displease the king.
“How is Trump spending Thanksgiving? Tweeting, golfing and more …”
…
“such as traveling to Afghanistan for the first time during his increasingly failing presidency to distract the media from on-going impeachment news that gets worse for him by the day; posing for photo-ops with fake food ala a noteable deserter named Shrubya and his fake turkey; regaling the troops he deeply disrespects with meandering stories of his fake greatness; and, of course, whining, whining and whining some more about fake news.”
FIFY, Ms. Kwong.
Hell, I 've been asking for:
1044 DAYS
05 HOURS
11 MINUTES
31 SECONDS
and still hoping and counting
seems someone had a target on her back for some reason.
payback, blackmail, didn’t show up for the date?
aw could be a million reasons but the one they gave, not good enough.
