New RNC Video On Mail-In Voting Push Is Littered With Falsehoods | Talking Points Memo

The RNC unveiled a new video Tuesday that made several false or misleading claims about the current push to expand mail-in voting during the pandemic.

Now would be a good time for the toothless FEC to speak up, don’t ya think?

Btw, whatever happened to truth in advertising?

This feels like they are overplaying their hand. The only people who might take this bait are Republicans. If it discourages them from mailing in their ballots, fine, let them go stand in line somewhere. There are also more races on the ticket than Dump/Biden.

Trump is going down BIGLY in November. He’s working on his excuses, always blaming others.

The one and only reason they are against mail-in voting is due to if they can keep the bulk of the nation from voting, they continue to keep power. They know that if more people vote, they’ll be removed from the government and from power.

I’m just waiting for some Republican wag to move on to the next Republican logical conclusion is that dead people voted on 11/03/20. That’s right, the people that stood inline or mailed their vote in, but passed away before the results were announced all voted illegally. I know, I know but some Republican is trying to take this idea and make it sound plausible.

What they’re telling us here is that they intend to contest an election that they lose by making these claims in court. Believe them in this. Don’t believe their happy talk, ever, but absolutely take them as speaking the literal truth about their intentions when they promise to do something stupid and vicious. Those promises they keep.

Where is the DNC video urging citizens to push the election officials for allowing mail in ballots? We can fight it in court, but we need to push the messaging as well.

Those things the videos are littered with are not falsehoods, they are LIES. This is how we know TPM is going mainstream, they’ve started with the mealymouthed MSM-speak.

Again one of the main reasons why the number of polling places will be reduced is because there are not enough poll workers willing to risk their health.
What I’d like to see on the local level is the County Board of Elections post about the normal amount to polling places per capita vs how many poll workers they’ll need and where they stand now.
If Republicans demand in person voting then they’ll have to show their work on recruiting Republicans to work the polling stations in non-white neighborhoods. Expand early in person voting, which will still need a large number of poll workers.

They know they’re going to lose.

It’s not just Trump. The entire Republican Party is batshit crazy.

If they were sane, they’d understand all that will happen is less Republicans will bother to vote absentee during a pandemic. Democrats know they are lying and will ignore their false claims.

A point I have been trying to understand. The Democrats know absentee voting is safe for the franchise and safe for your Covid-19 risk, so the will vote by mail. If the Republicans believe this bullshit they will not vote absentee but have to go stand in line. Seems counter-productive to me.

The Democrats need to attack this line of thinking every day and in every way. t is a serious assault on our democracy. Advocate for calling in U.N. poll monitoring. Hire Lincoln Project to do the ads. The Press also needs to not just report on the gaslighting but also point out why it is important to understand the issue. Over and over and over.

The Dems need to warn voters every day that what the GOP is doing is trying to subvert the vote. Over and over.

Here’s what the Republicans did in Kentucky to slow down or stop voting today!

Kentucky braces for chaotic primary election after cuts to polling locations!

Republicans have traditionally used absentee ballots (mail-in voting) far more than Democrats have done.

This is a classic case of the RNC shooting itself in the foot.
I say let 'em.

But their tactics of closing and/or moving polling stations in minority (.i.e. Democratic voters) won’t work so well. Also their plans for monitoring (intimidation) is an issue as well. I think your point on older republicans wanting to wait in line is also valid given their lack of enthusiasm for tRump.

Except that’s not what they did and it’s not what’s happening.

About 38% of KY voters used mail-in ballots or early voting.
There are no long lines.
Turnout is expected to break records.
