New Poll Finds Only One-Third Of Voters Very Confident That Mail-In Ballots Will Be Counted | Talking Points Memo

A low number of likely voters are confident that people who vote by mail will actually have their ballot counted, a new poll has found.

Yeah I have one waiting for me to fill out and send in but still contemplating doing my normal early voting. Guess either way you’re counting on the system and folks that run it to work fairly.

Apparently part of Trump’s way to a peaceful continuation of him in power?

If you watch this and you’re not scared you ain’t paying attention
Ditto on the ballot
In Florida you have to bring it with you to prove you haven’t voted yet.
I ain’t takin’ any chances
Vote in person if at all possible
Not going to let a dictator take control

The likelihood of a mail in ballot counting is inversely proportional to how much the Republican party controls any given jurisdiction. Republicans know that Democrats have been requesting far more ballots than Republicans, and therefore either not counting or slow counting of mail in votes will help the cause.

The poll found that while 74 percent of Republicans said that they would feel “very safe” in going to a polling precinct and voting in person, only 28 percent of Democrats said the same.

I guess there is no correlation here between the fact that Trump is going to send his supporters to the polls to cut down on fraud, and it is likely that at least some of these will be flaunting their 2nd rights. Of course the only place fraud might be found would be in Democratic districts, so let’s keep an eye on where Trumps poll watchers are sent.

From a Gellman article in the Atlantic:

The Republicans are recruiting 50,000 volunteers in 15 contested states to monitor polling places and challenge voters they deem suspicious-looking. Trump called in to Fox News on August 20 to tell Sean Hannity, “We’re going to have sheriffs and we’re going to have law enforcement and we’re going to have, hopefully, U.S. attorneys” to keep close watch on the polls.

One-third sounds a bit low, but some states provide tokens, tracking and verification of receipt online. Colorado and North Carolina, from what I hear, are doing a good job.

Well I can understand that Trump might want to take over at any costs, but find it hard to believe that other Republicans would do that. Mainly because they know they will still be ok if Biden wins, and in a lot of circumstances as good if not better with D’s in charge.

I was planning on mailing it in, now I’m thinking I’ll be in line on November 3.

Vote in person. I want Trump to know he lost on Election Night, not three weeks later after his mutts have already burned the place down. You don’t have to worry if your signature matches, if you put it in the envelope correctly, or if someone just threw it away. They want to keep throwing barricades up in front of mail-in voting and make it difficult, they think that will help them? Fine, don’t go down that road, just vote in person. Put your mask on and stand in line like an adult, stop screwing around. That’s exactly what he wants, take it away from him.

So the Press, and TPM, are helpingTrump achieve his goal. Seeding doubts in the election process and means.

I wish I could share your optimism
Republicans have never ever showed any inclination to do what is right
Power at any cost
As in the response to Ruth Ginsburg
"Understand: That response tells us nothing about the GOP we did not already know. That it is one part thugocracy, one part kleptocracy and all hypocrisy unencumbered by principle has long been clear to any honest observer. But the events of the past few days offer vivid evidence of just how deep the rot extends.
Meaning norms, practices, guidelines — some written as law, some just respected as customs — to which we all adhere, even when that gives advantage to those with whom we disagree. It’s a covenant pluralistic self-government demands. And it’s one America is in the process of shredding — as seen anew in the Republican Party’s response to the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

I dont know about where you vote, but in TX, even if you vote in person you have to sign and if that signsture doesnt match your ballot can be tossed.

Well yes untill it turns out, for many people, that they put it off, get sick, something or another happens, and they dont make it. It is human nature.

Well they didn’t really want him in the first place. So I’ll give them some credit for that. Yes once he won the party nomination they accepted him because they knew it was the only chance they had at all to win the presidency. And they also know they only got in due to Trump’s popularity with R voters and of course the EC. And the EC and BS in FL was the only reason Dubya got in the first time. And they know if get this supreme court judge they will still have some control of some of the things they care about even if they lose president, and senate for that matter. So as I said, I’m hopeful they won’t let Trump and the violent racist white minority get too out of hand. There will still be some shit that happens as it already has and probably some if not a lot more, but if Ds are in control that should finally get the heavy handed control it needs. And maybe, just maybe, when Ds fix R fuck ups again, this time there will be enough people that see it and believe it, and there won’t be enough of the racist white folks around to get power even with the EC and the bias senate seat numbers.

I saw the story on Maddow. it is far and away the biggest story of this or any other day in the era of Trump. He and his team are already conspiring to steal the election from the voters and end the count prematurely. Of course it is being ignored by the mainstream media. They are invested in their memes.

With mail-in ballots already being rejected (NC) for what any sane person would understand as bogus claims. Not dotting an “i” in a name, for example, or using a blue pen vs a black pen. Yes, I made them up when it concerns a ballot being accepted. However, the examples are what is about to happen to so many. These examples were taken directly from personal experience when dealing with government bureaucrats. If they want to find an excuse they will. In both cases, bureaucrats used these excuses to refuse to accept legal documents when I was dealing with the death of my son.

Add, the pen was handed to me by the clerk who then proceeded to refuse the document.

BINGO…

Not the 1st day of early voting because I expect it to be mobbed even here in East TN. But you can bet on the 3rd or 4th day. I have it easy here as I can look out a front window to see the early voting polling place so I will walk across the street when I notice few cars in the lot.

One thing we can already say is that people are not prepared for what is coming down the pike.

Just as the US never really got any isolate and trace system off the ground for covid, the whole mail-in absentee ballot business seems botched. Democrats probably need a national turnout north of 140 million to seal the deal. Just 15 million ballots less and things turn ugly. About 65 million are currently covered by absentee measures. Congress should have been shooting for the entire potential voter pool, which is about 240 million. Moreover, we have in many counties and states difficulty (at least on the part of the voter) in assessing whether the mail-in ballot was timely received, validated and recorded.

Here’s the kicker. The OSCE still wants to get observation teams in place. Here’s the link to their July report. We could well find ourselves in a Belarus-type situation. Is Biden ready to go live in Toronto for a while?
