As a lawyer and former prosecutor, Christie would have made certain the corruption of Trumps’ administration would have been buried better and harder to prosecute. Besides, Jared Kushner never would’ve let Christie into that administration because of Christie putting his father in jail.
There was plenty off corruption under Christie, he just made sure none of it stuck to him. Same shit, just a bigger pile.
The Hill is pushing a questionable poll putting Bloomberg tied for third place with Warren:
The number of voters favoring the former mayor jumped from 5 percent to 11 percent, according to a Hill-HarrisX national poll released Friday. The total elevates Bloomberg into a third-place tie with Warren, one of his sharpest critics since he entered the race on November 24.
Both Newsweek and The Hill reported on that poll, but no one else has from what I have seen.
Even Mediaite ignored it… so I’m guessing it’s a BS poll. The NYT times poll as of yesterday had Bloomberg at 5% and Klobuchar at 4%. Biden was leading with 27%, Sanders 19%, Warren 16% and Pete at 9%. That puts Bloomberg in 5th place, not tied for third.
Jimmy Finkelstein, the owner of The Hill, is trying to sell according to Politico. They report he wants a hundred million .
Finkelstein is best friends with Giuliani. Trump also knows him well and told a reporter to say “hi to Jimmy” during an interview. That’s why The Hill should be read with a jaundiced eye, if at all.
Added:
Have to add that Mediaite just printed that Hill-Harris poll this morning. I Thought they were smarter than that. Guess not.
There are clearly shoes, that have yet to drop, that could potentially change the political and even legal dynamic of all this in dramatic and substantive ways, such that they could make Trump’s reelection extremely unlikely if not impossible, make it far more likely that he will eventually be indicted, prosecuted, convicted and even imprisoned, and make removal or resignation far more likely.
We’re not talking bringing his numbers down to the low 30’s, as there are simply too many cultists and morons out there to make that possible these days. But they don’t need to get that low for any of this to happen. The mid-30’s should be enough to sufficiently change the political dynamic to make all that possible, and such shoes dropping could well make that happen.
They haven’t yet dropped, and they might not ever drop. But they exist, and they could drop, and it’s Dems’ moral and political obligation to do all that they can to get them to drop. But can and will they? Is this what Pelosi’s trying to do by not sending the articles to the senate?
Is this what Dems are trying to do by continuing to push for the release of evidence and compulsion of testimony even after impeaching Trump? I sure hope so. This can’t possibly be over except for the formalities of a predetermined senate trial.
There must be something else, something more. There must be more shoes, and they must drop. I mean major, major shoes, connecting Trump to Ukraine, Russia and the rest of it, in a more than incidental or circumstantial way. This is Dems best chance. I hope they’re on it.
You do realize that wanting something to happen and the odds of it happening are not relative?
He will never be indicted by anyone he appoints to head the DoJ. Besides, a sitting president cannot be indicted. The House can impeach Trump, but they cannot convict him.
Mitch and his Senate cabal of Republicans will never convict him regardless of what shoes fall. Not a single sitting Republican that I’m aware of had anything but praise for the assassination of the Iranian General.
Most likely, the general will replaced with someone just as bad and more careful.
Lou Dobbs had me crying tears of laughter this morning after I read and watched the clip where he said these words:
“This is a president who’s already — in my opinion, he’s already historic, but in my opinion, he’s also already one of the greatest presidents and with another four years, in which to get more done, he’s already set a standard, Congressman, for presidents that most mortals won’t be able to meet. He outworks them. He outthinks. He is remarkably resourceful. He’s bright. His judgment is second to none.”
Trump is the “golden calf” of the Republican party.
But the idea of Ukraine investigating Manafort worried somebody greatly - wasn’t dropping the investigation–which Lutsenko did do–part of the Trump Admin pressure campaign on Ukraine under Poroshenko? Poroshenko needed US/Trump support in HIS reelection campaign and this is one of the things he did to get it.
So the options:
What did Paulie know about Donny (Kompromat) that pushed Donny do this favor for him?
OR
Since Donny and Paulie go way back, was Donny worrying that the investigation into the Black Ledger/Manafort going to turn up something on Donny hisownself?
Anything can happen, with varying degrees of likelihood. At present the chances that he’s indicted or removed are incredibly small, of course, but certain circumstances could change that and only a lack of imagination, hope and sense of the fickleness of politics can prevent one from realizing that. The tendency to project the present onto future is understandable and alluring, but ultimately faulty.
Things will change, inevitably, perhaps not to the extent that either of these outcomes occurs, but they will change, and who’s to say that they won’t change to this extent. We’re sitting on a massive and unstable pile of revelations that could destroy Trump and cause serious damage to the GOP, and neither of us knows what will come out tomorrow and beyond. It’s just as silly to predict with any certainty that this will happen as it is to predict that it won’t. We just don’t know.
I’m choosing to believe, and not without good cause because it’s happened before (2016, hello), that something will come out eventually that will significantly change the dynamic. That’s my prediction. Not a definitive one, but one nonetheless, and not entirely based on wishful thinking. And even if he’s neither removed nor indicted, he may well be indicted by the next administration if he loses.
And if something huge does come out, I expect it to be about either the 2016 election or Russia–or both. We’re not done with either, and hopefully Dems realize that.
1 / Lock. Him. Up… More.
2 / Why aren’t the many GOP Supporters of Enhanced Interrogation calling for this guy to get some?
3 / Is he getting the same official watching & oversight that Epstein got?
all they had to do is announce the FBI was conducting a counterintelligence operation on the Republican presidential nominee for being a plant by the Russian government.
And trump continues to commit crimes. We’ll be hearing about some of these, too. But it will not matter to republicans in the Senate. Too many are complicit and they’re all cowards - they won’t dare remove trump from office.
But the constant sound of other shoes dropping between now and election will further define republicans as traitors for not removing him. Once acquitted by the Senate, trump will be emboldened and he will overreach - maybe not too much for the feral trumpers, but certainly enough for most everyone else.
I suspect they’ll pay a heavy price in November.
Again, any meaningful consequences for his crimes and their enabling and covering up of them will almost certainly have to come by way of future elections and criminal and civil action by a future Dem administration and at the state and local level. Until then, the charade and coverup will go on, and they’re going to try to use every power available to them, lawful and not, to avoid electoral and legal consequences–with the open assistance of Russia, of course. The coming year is going to be a terrifying time for the republic and there’s no guarantee that it’ll survive.
What scares me is that not enough “good guys” are standing up for it, either worried about their own situations or simply not caring enough. From Mueller on down, it’s been one disappointment after another. No one seems to be able or willing to take up the David vs. Goliath role and sling that stone at the orange ogre. We here in the blog weeds don’t have the pull to do that.
Why he didn’t has been well documented. For one, he didn’t involve himself in DoJ or FBI matters, or so he’s said. For another, it’s DoJ and FBI policy to not announce ongoing investigations let alone reveal their details, before they’re concluded. Clinton was the exception because it leaked. Would that the same would have happened with the Trump investigation. Funny that it didn’t.
Instead of texting each other thousands of times like lovestruck teenagers, I would have preferred that Strozk or Page would have leaked this to a trusted reported. This is what happens when the “good guys” adhere too closely to the rules. We need more street fighters and fewer boy and girl scouts.
