Just a tad OT; my only New Year’s resolution is to refrain from reading anything having to do with the former president until I see a piece that includes the word “INDICTED!” @txlawyer, I hope your dates hold on that score!

The GOP can show their vices…all of 'em. That’s about it. Anything else is up to Law Enforcement.

But I can still hope. I also have faith that “The Winds of Winter” will be completed and published.

Perhaps, TX, but it’s not clear to me how Freshmen can vote if they’re not sworn in. This from the Times:

On the first day the new House is in session, choosing a new speaker is the first matter of business that lawmakers must take up. It happens even before newly elected representatives are sworn in, and must be resolved before other business resumes.

As do I, though I won’t be shocked if it drags out for a bit longer than next Friday. If the spring equinox arrives without an indictment on the purloined documents, I will be appropriately shocked and appalled.

It’s not going to burn. It’s just going to be one big endless fart.

Democrats should lend McCarthy ten votes in opening round. Take the legs out from under McCarthy while GOP heads explode.

The chaos of the 2023 US House Republican caucus reminds me of this classic by the rock group ‘Sweet’ - Barroom Blitz.

Americans voted for a Democratic house, GOP just drew the lines to win and barely pulled it off.

“Completed”? I’m skeptical. Published is an absolute certainty. I have no faith in ADOS ever arriving in any substantial form. And I’ve made my peace with it.

McCarthy said no and it would blow up his current support.

Read in Politico that 1) this mornings GOP conference meeting turned into a profanity filled shouting match, and 2) Hakeem Jeffries has the Dem. Conference prepared to vote for Jeffries on EVERY vote, making it almost impossible for ANY Speaker of the 118th Congress to be selected and the new members to be sworn in. If the GOP’s start leaving the floor, Jeffries could end up as Speaker, LOL ! What a total clusterfuck, just what you would expect from this clown car of morons.
