Jim Marchant, the Republican candidate for Nevada’s secretary of state, has spent his campaign doing the opposite of an election chief’s duties: spreading lies about the legitimacy of several elections.

I did it, I stole all of those elections. And I’m going to do it again this year, so Republicans shouldn’t even bother to vote. After all, I can’t flip their ballots blue if they don’t actually cast a ballot. That’s just science.

The clip raises the familiar anti-semitic conspiracy theory that George Soros, a wealthy center-left donor, was somehow involved in ensuring the aforementioned Democrats’ reelection, even though each of them won several of their last races by large margins.

It looks like Hitchens’s razor fits here. Anything that can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.

I read an utterly chilling, also utterly unsurprising, comment from a Trumper in the New York Times this weekend: “Facts are whatever you want them to be.” I guess I thought the American public was a lot smarter and savvier than it is…you just shake your head in despair.
