Dan Bishop, the Republican running in North Carolina’s 9th District, has molded himself into a President Donald Trump facsimile, making Tuesday’s special election a true proxy war for larger races to come.
Trump just dropped significantly on the aggregate poll on 538. Trumpsters at least are going in weak to this election.
It’ll be a sweet reward if Trump Bishop loses, preferably in a landslide.
The early vote…are the Dems leading on that?

Turnout, as always, will be the deciding factor here. The people of NC-09 have seen their republican leaders attempt to steal this election once already. They’ve seen state-wide gerrymandering and other attempts to deny them a fair election. All this is on top of trump’s long list of corrupt and immoral actions. If THAT fails to motivate them, they’ll earn the government they get.
Anything less than a landslide will be deeply disturbing.
The thing to bear in mind with this election is that it was a R+12 district in 2016. So a narrow loss would be tough on McCready, who has been fighting like a tiger, but good news across the board.
Hell, that’s about the size of a high-school basketball court.

Seriously. Emotionally, sure, see it as a cliffhanger, but that this race is competitive is already a huge ominous sign for Trump and the GOP. The actual outcome is a tossup between really bad and even worse, that’s all.

A narrow D loss in a R+12 district that the GOP had to absolutely dump money into to eke out would definitely be no small victory and a good sign for 2020.
