The federal probe into Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who is reportedly being investigated to determine whether he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old, has reached a key development, according to two new reports.
Good. I had thought perhaps that the case had stalled out when the then-minor who he’s alleged to have had relations with, refused to testify.
I will repeat my past comment, that Joel Greenberg fingering a bunch of dirty election-fixing pols in Florida is more important than removing one minor gasbag critter from congress, no matter how satisfying it will be to see congressman daddyson go down.
This is probably taking so long because they keep finding more crimes to investigate,. Still, this is a fine example of why folks shouldn’t assume that investigations aren’t ongoing because we’re not hearing anything about the investigation. We’re not supposed to hear anything. That’s the way it should be.
The ex-girlfriend, whose name is being withheld by NBC News to respect her privacy, has been in talks for months with prosecutors about an immunity deal. Under a possible deal, she would avoid prosecution for obstruction of justice in return for testifying in the investigation into whether Gaetz in 2017 had sex with a 17-year-old female for money and whether months later he and others violated a federal law prohibiting people for paying for prostitutes overseas.
Let alone the effects covid had on the judicial system as a whole. Many cases on all sorts of non-interesting things to the general public have been kicked down the road and are experiencing now years-long delays.
Unsexy and uninteresting stuff, but still clogging up the system.
So it’s no surprise that these sorts of delays are happening. It’s not like these specific cases are the only things on the docket.
The fact that the grand jury is still considering charges suggests this probe probably goes beyond Gaetz. It would be a thing of beauty if it winds up taking down DeathSantis and Rubio or Bat Boy. Although, to be fair, I doubt Rubio has any interest in having sex with women of any age.
This is all a bunch of nothing. Gaetz’s behavior was simply a youthful indiscretion as he attempted to spend more time with his family while his mother was diagnosed with cancer.
It’s probably also taking a long time because the DOJ wants to be absolutely certain they’ve got the goods on him, before they move publicly to indict. Whatever else he is, he’s also a sitting member of Congress, and that justifies proceeding with care and deliberation.
But then he’d be booted from Congress… Article 1 Section 2 of the Constitution says the prospective member must have attained 25 years of age … come to think of it that would be a good thing…
OT: Mike Pence has very, very high hopes at a presidential run, and has been quietly laying the groundwork. How this figures into him possibly testifying to the Select Committee, we shall see.
