Several cities with NBA arenas could see those facilities turned into in-person voting sites this fall, thanks to a deal reached Friday between players and franchise officials to resume the NBA playoffs this weekend.
Looking down/on with pride: Tommie Smith and John Carlos, Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, Larry Doby, Paul Robeson, Jackie Robinson, Kenny Washington and Woody Strode in the NFL, Marion Motley,Bill Willis…
Anybody know how many cities where the local franchise “owns and controls” its facility? I doubt it’s very many, since almost all of them were built with public money.
NBA players have the platform to become the conscience of the nation. I’m so glad they didn’t take Ingraham’s despicable advice to “shut up and dribble”.
While some NBA owners are relatively progressive, such as Mark Cuban, I imagine quite a few are Trump supporters who had to be reluctantly pulled to do the right thing. James Dolan, for example.
Every time the NBA does something socially significant and meaningful, it makes the other leagues look small and pathetic in contrast, especially the NFL.
It was also pretty damn cool to see the Mets and the Marlins walk off the field last night leaving a Black Lives Matter shirt across homeplate. Watch if you missed it.
