I don’t think that Crozier’s superiors listening to him is the problem: it’s the Commander in Chief. Now that he’s dubbed himself a “wartime president” it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he said “No, I need that boat operational!” After all, in addition to being a crack epidemiologist he is also an imaginary ex-Navy SEAL, among so many other things.
After all, that carrier has steam catapults.
They just need to set sail for Easter Island.
It will all be over when they get to Easter, right, Donnie?
I heard about corona-positive sailors taken of the TR last week when I returned 2 my squadron after 14-day quarantine because I was in Europe 5 times and including flying missions from Bahrain.
I’m wonder if the sailors were tested after docking in Guam? Because there is no way medical on the ship had coved-19 tests.
And the best course of action would be to test the entire crew (maybe Germany can give the US some test kits) and only allow those who test negative and are in the appropriate ratings ( job-type) to clean the boat. (Unless the Navy just plans to assign available bodies to perform the task.)
But realistically even if everyone is tested there is no way the navy is going to allow untrained sailors to perform hazmat cleaning. Even slap-dash training could take days-maybe weeks if the service doesn’t have available off-the-shelf curriculum. Some type of training will be conducted. That is the Navy way and it’s the right way.
I’m not a surface guy but I doubt the entire crew receives NBB/hazmat cleaning training unlike required firefighting training.
Thanks Trump and Esper… Great job killing American sailors.
Silly Captain, you have to say “Pretty please, Mr. Greatest Commander in Chief Ever.”
Good for you, Capt. Brett Crozier. He can probably kiss his career goodbye, something he knows, as he does the right thing.
ETA: I see @Mikebeee beat me to it.
My dad was USN, too. All the way. 20 years and then he retired and went to work for the Navy as a sand crab, as we used to call civilian contractors before he was one. This hit me in the gut, too.
Don’t try to dock in Florida
And thus ignorance is converted to sabotage, or would be if the overseas commanders acted like robots and followed the directive to the letter.
A great idea, but there aren’t any Trumpp properties there.
If Trumpp was on the ball, he’d have the US buy the island from Chile, lease all the public land to Trumpp Inc. at almost no cost (remote, low population, minimal infrastructure and resources), and then declare that the US Space Force HQ and primary launch site will be located on Easter Island.
He’d never do it. Too many heads with more brains than he has.
Better hair, too.
