Nationwide Unrest Continues | Talking Points Memo

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Another night of unrest in every corner of the country left charred and shattered landscapes in dozens of American cities Sunday as years of festering frustrations over the mistreatment of African Americans at the hands of police boiled over in expressions of rage met with tear gas and rubber bullets.

Thus far, none of this is anywhere close to the LA Riots. There are organized groups (Far right, far left) that are mingling among the crowds and breaking out to vandalize and loot and riot. Some are also agitating to target violence against peaceful protesters (the bow and arrow Trumper in Salt Lake City who got his ass appropriately kicked). In addition, however, the fact that this is happening is causing others not connected to any movement (mostly young people) to go rob stores (in LA/Chicago, it was mainly shoe stores).

The peaceful protests yesterday were quite impressive. I give high marks to the ones where mask wearing was observed (e.g., Miami).

There are too many people protesting b/c of the COVID-19 risk, however.

Ultimately, I think these protests are happening because no one trusts that enough will be done in the George Floyd case. People have watched for 4 years as Trump has trampled on and tilted the justice system and the enforcement of the law to favor his friends and punish everyone else. It’s a two tiered system in a banana republic sort of way. People are also sick of the cops having a license to kill and using it at an unacceptable level of frequency.

All that said, the only solution is to vote. My feeling is that Trump’s dumb tweets got the far left activated to support Dems in this election b/c his rhetoric has targeted them directly.

I do hope the protests will stop today or Monday. You just don’t know where these things can turn. I think the past 8 days have been a COVID-19 incubator. We’re already blazing away this week having crossed 1.8 million cases and 105,000 fatalities. The Memorial Day surge is going to be lit.

You’d think people who have acted out economic anxiety for so long would recognize real anxiety when they saw it.

As I watched the crowds in the videos you can’t help but notice the age demographic is mostly those who have a poor history of voter turnout.

Bible, right?

It’s out of control because we have been down this road too many times but this time when you have a cop with his knee on the mans neck for 9 minutes on video and he’s saying he can’t breathe, this is Déjà vu-Eric Gardner pleading I can’t breathe. 11 times with multiple officers restraining him. 11 times while lying face down on the sidewalk. What is the first thing law enforcement and the MSM do, victimize the victim by assassinating his character putting in the mind of the country that the victim caused his own death. Than next in the playbook the ME creates a previous existing medical condition that caused his death rather than the strangulation. The idea is to frame the victim as a BAD PERSON from Trayvon Martin to George Floyd. Justice is NEVER served. This time the states AG consulted with Barr & Trump on a local state murder case. WTF!!!. That told everyone that this was going to be a whitewash. Of course this was the AG and other local authorities said before this cop was arrested that there wasn’t enough evidence at the time to make a determination if an arrest was warranted. AND when they did arrest him it was 3rd degree. Another big WTF.
Why weren’t the other 3 cops arrested as accessories? This is not rocket science and considering INTENT follows the bullet and his intent was to kill. WHY? Because he could and he’s gotten away with shit before.

The fix is in—3rd degree. tRump left the country hanging months ago with his incompetence in regards to COVID.

America is a country flapping in the wind. We are on a ship with no rudder and absolutely no leadership to guide us through.

This is the kind of thing that can galvanize the left, young and poor to go vote, especially because Trump has targeted them specifically with his tweets. Now, it’s existential.

It can but will it? I have my doubts.

I grew up in Temple Terrace, a bedroom community of Tampa, and remember the 1967 riots. I couldn’t remember how they started; so, I looked it up. The riots were set off because a white policeman shot a nineteen year old African-American man in the back. Martin Chambers, the young man, was suspected in a burglary. He was unarmed. I found this video that deals with the African-American community in Tampa so interesting: https://calendar.eji.org/racial-injustice/jun/11. If you grew up in the area, I recommend it. So much progress made. So much the same.

The cops are out of control

We are witnessing police riots egged on by a sociopathic conman.

I’m more encouraged. Mind you, I don’t think Biden needs them to win given how well he is performing among seniors, but getting this crew on board, involved, and working with liberals and moderates is a good thing.

Trashing the “left” and “far left” is what you do best khyber. The Left you talk about has been galvanized for a long time. When you mainstream democrats decide who you’re going to support, corporate America or the middle-class, let us know.

The far left trashes themselves all on their own. I just point it out.

As one would know if one worked daily with activists on the ground.

And I mean daily, not only in season during election years.

People are cared for, and fed, and clothed, daily, by the left – not by the brainiacs who talk fatuously about the left at election time.

You keep using “far left” in your posts. So please tell me who they are.

And yet they have not learned:
Seattle cop caught on video with knee on neck of George Floyd protestor

-In the video, the man, clad in a bright orange sweatshirt, is forced to the ground by two police officers who are seen holding down as they put restraints on him. During the incident, one officer uses his knee to hold the man down, causing onlookers to yell at the cops, “Get your f*cking knee of his neck!” as the man begged for help.
