The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) apologized on Saturday for altering the photo seen above of the 2017 Women’s March to blur signs protesting against President Donald Trump.
mentions of women’s genitals were edited out because NARA considers its museum to be “family-friendly,” the agency said, and the words “could be perceived by some museum visitors as inappropriate.”
Museum patrons, perhaps. But not conservative voters. They let you do it.
Thanks, GOP, for nominating a rabid dog to the presidency. I wouldn’t trust them to flush a toilet.
This suggests that they would be fine putting out completely misleading “copies” of documents, without noting they are changed, so long as they have the complete unchanged original in their archives. That would be a complete abuse of the role of the Archive, Let’s hope this was a one-time thing by an over-anxious staff person.
If it happened and is part of history and worth being archived,
THEN IS MUST BE AS IT OCCURED.
No editing - No Censorship - No fake history!
Have they removed photos of Klan members marching in DC from the 1930’s? Of course not.
No excuse is acceptable.
The Chief Archivist, David Ferriero, was appointed by Obama. I hate to see him step down because Trump would appoint someone awful. However, Ferriero needs to make amends to the world.
I think the way he makes amends is to memorialize both the original and the altered photo, which should itself be “archived” in the National Archives as a Government creation, and as an example of what happens when a fucking wannabe dictator in America thinks he can get away with it.
This ranks right up there with fucking Stalin airbrushing out of “official” photos people whom he had executed. Nowadays both the originals and the altered pics are in the Russian Archives (unless Puty has decreed otherwise).
This is a perfect example of the spreading poison of Trumpism. I’m not saying Trump ordered it, whereas Stalin assuredly did. But it clearly shows Trump’s influence. Bureaucrats decide this is a “good idea” out of pure fear for their jobs, or a sycophantic desire to please the Dear Leader.
I truly hope that this doesn’t just get dropped with this apology. These are supposed to be accurate, historical records, there should be absolutely no alterations on anything from the National Archives, or if considered too offensive then clearly marked with a disclaimer stating it is an alteration with an unaltered original available. This was political and David Ferriero may or may not have been aware. If he was he needs to go, but there was a person somewhere who decided that alterations were needed and which ones needed it. That person needs to be identified internally at least and dealt with accordingly
The “fear” this man inspires … I mean, WTF??? He’s a goddamn reprehensible coward and bully. How about people just start saying “No”? It’s contagious, guys. See example one: Marie Yovanovich.

How DARE this ‘institution’ criticize the completely appropriate words of our most Christian president.
If 45* can say pussy, ‘schlonged’ on a campaign speech and mimic a disabled person, it is good enough for any family, as his very feminist daughter Ivanka can attest to.
“We made a mistake,” the federal agency said in a [press release]
but after the chief archivist had to go to the E.R. for the head injury from that flying bottle of orange make-up, we decided that we should err on the a part of survival."
