The double standard is one part of it. But I think is also a technique ( often done pre-emptively) to make the public think certain behaviors are common. Therefore when the public finds out the Trump admin is doing it, they ignore it because it seems like “everyone” does it.

Ross has a long and extensive association with Russian oligarchs, which is code for crooks. He was head of the Bank of Cyprus which has been investigated for laundering Russian money. If you Google Wilbur Ross and Russian ties you’ll come up with plenty. Also Bank of Cyprus and Russian money laundering.
