I interpret this as the local party saying, “We’ll take the non trivial risk of losing the seat entirely over letting this guy stay”, which makes me think the next shoe to drop is gonna be a doozy.

I have a hunch that the GOP may be calling on Santos to step aside, because they have oppo research on some recent Democratic House members whose backstories are a bit “iffy.” Then it’s open season.

I think we can mark it as a sign of progress that little to no hostility towards him is because he’s gay - but rather because he’s legitimately being judged by the content of his character.
It also shows that anyone can be a jerk regardless of their sexuality or how they identify.
Another thing that pisses me off is that he’s trying to make it sound like the GQP is fine with his sexuality—they’re not. They just see him as a useful idiot who will do as he’s told and occupy the seat.

The voters in Santos’ district need to learn to do their “homework” on candidates for any office. This time around they made a seriously shitty choice. I would say the same if Santos were a democrat. We cannot trust this man’s word on anything. Not his birth place, parent’s names, his citizenship, anything about his career or even his health as he claims to be “one of the first” to get covid in this country. He fibbed on the dates, he fibbed on his symptoms and he appeared on tv on day 5 after he claimed infection and showed no symptoms at that appearance. The only other person i know of who lies as much as Santos is trump

Santos is this liminal detritus that floated in on the red tide. If he wants to do the right thing by his constituents, and all Americans that support the idea of representative democracy, he should immediately resign. John Roberts has assured that there is an infinite amount of dark money available to back whatever candidate the GOP wishes to field in a special election. But this guy needs to leave.

Idle question: Seems the Nassau GOP knows something not fully disclosed yet. If it’s a citizenship issue and GS was never eligible for election, does that mean his vote for speaker was invalid, and there’s still no speaker?
