House Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY) is expected to subpoena Attorney General Bill Barr ahead of the Trump official’s hearing on July 2.

Perhaps if Rep Nadler offers payola, Barr will appear.
Seems to be the currency of the realm.

Meaningless posturing, unless the Sergeant-at-Arms is standing at the ready to retrieve Barr.

Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) told Nadler there was “no legitimate basis” for a subpoena and accused him of adopting a “an odd and decidedly partisan posture” toward Barr.

“I urge you to set aside your animosity, choose cooperation over confrontation, and work collaboratively to find a mutually agreeable date for Attorney General Barr to testify,” the Republican wrote.

Perhaps I’ll be able to post a comment when I can stop the convulsive laughter.

Except, that will probably be followed by a wave of anger.

I am delighted that Chairman Nadler will focus a spotlight in the lies and corruption of Trump’s so-called personal attorney general and protector from law.

But of course Gym Jordan Would opposed Barr’s subpoena…

It seems Barr lied not only to the American people about Berman BUT also to Carpenito…

Jim Jordan is good at looking the other way; while children are being molested and while the rule of law is as well.

Last time I checked, the WH does not honor subpoenas.

I expect nothing to come of this. Barr will laugh at the subpoena and go on his merry way.

Nothing to see here; move along…

What’s the deal with that wacko Jim Jordan?
Does he classify as a runt? A dwarf? A midget? What???
I suggest we settle on “pervy pipsqueak”.

For example, he continued, February 29, 2024.

Hit Barr with every possible subpoena. If he ignores them, just more grounds for prosecution in 2021.

I think there are 2 ways to rid the country of Barr/tRump reign of terror on the Rules of Law an the Constitution:
Disbar Barr. Position of Attorney requires him to to a licensed attorney.
De-fund the Justice Department because he is using the dept. and his position to represent tRump and not the American people therefore he has violated his job description and his Constitutional duty.

disbar-barr

So I suspect in part this is to satisfy progressives in his district and his elsewhere who have been calling for him to subpoena Barr. Nadler has been an opponent of impeachement and subpoenas for a long time–calling it a waste of time, as many people on this thread imply as well–but his primary opponent Lindsey Boylan is running on this issues and Nadler gets attacked on Twitter about it all the time.

Personally, I don’t think it would be politically possible for Congress to arrest members of the executive branch through inherent powers, as many people advocate. It would, among other things, create a tit for tat backdrop for Trump to start (illegally) rounding up opponents through arrests. So is it a waste of time? Pro subpoena folks say no, because it documents executive resistance and also shows Congress doing oversight. I imagine Nadler would reply it shows democrats being weak. Regardless, I do think even Nadler is getting ready to bow to pressure to do this. Boylan, if nothing else, is making a meal of his supposed sloth in not doing so.

All true, but at the end of the day all we see are Democrats doing nothing while being dictated to by Jim Jordan. Never a good look.

This probably isn’t the issue Nadler needs to be issuing a subpoena to Barr about right now, though. Go with issues that Barr has refused an invite to speak about…the Flynn and Stone interference…first. I am not sure where we stand on issuing Barr and invite to speak about the Lafeyette Park clearing, but if Nadler has requested his attendance on that, then include it on the list.

As annoying as it gets, Nadler not issuing subpoenas on those, but skipping right over the “invitation” step will inevitably make for bad optics. On this particular subject, he needs to ask Berman, Clayton, the US Attorney from NJ, probably Strauss, along with Barr to address the matter. Quite frankly, if I were on the Judiciary Committee, I am much more interested in having a closed door hearing with Strauss about what could have potentially set off Barr’s move, than I am about hearing Barr obfuscate about it first publicly.

And even then, it seems out of whack to ignore the DoJ’s handling of the Flynn and Stone cases and just focus on this one. If you are going to provide oversight, or even simply build a case publicly to show Barr is corrupt…start with those two.

And the point I outlined above, is Jordan’s point. Why play into it? Make the counter point by issuing the subpoena concerning things that Barr has declined playing civil about instead.
