A lawsuit filed last month alleging that President Trump and his campaign violated the Voting Rights Act in their efforts to overturn the election has been expanded to include the Republican National Committee as a defendant.
In addition to the alleged Voting Rights Act violation, the amended complaint is accusing the Trump campaign and the RNC of violating the Ku Klux Klan Act.
The lawsuit claims that the RNC promoted these efforts, via its official social media accounts and the accounts of its leaders.
It’s almost become a cliche to say discovery should be interesting, so I won’t say it. Mostly because what’s in the public sphere is already pretty damning.
Hopefully they included examples of predominately white districts that historically vote Democratic and were not targeted. Otherwise the RNC can claim they targeted districts based on voting history alone.
The RNC and state GOP parties just got themselves off a 30 year (?) consent decree, and what happened? Trump came along and will put them back on a consent decree, if there is justice in the world.
Trump has elevated the “plausible deniability” of Republican racism to a siren blast that deafens anyone paying even the slightest attention. So perhaps this puts John Roberts, who has yet to see a minority voting right he agrees with, in an interesting position.
