Trump was happy yesterday to misconstrue NATO head Rutte’s “daddy” remark, then proceeded to act placated but always ready to throw a tantrum. Musk’s DOGE days were nothing but a tantrum. Now Brazilian president Lula has had to deal with a Xi tantrum, with Xi disinviting himself from the BRICS summit at the last minute. We live a world run by big babies, and we’ve ceded tremendous powers to them.
Chinese officials noted that Mr Xi had already met with Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva twice in less than a year, seemingly suggesting this made his presence at the upcoming summit less urgent. They met at the G20 summit in the South American country last November and then at the China-Celac forum in Beijing this past May, the SCMP reported.
The report speculated that the Brazilian president’s invitation for a state dinner to Indian prime minister Narendra Modi could have sparked Mr Xi’s withdrawal as it could have made the Chinese leader appear as a “supporting actor”.

I was one of the lucky ones, my full retirement hit twenty days before DOGE hit the scene so I got out. I can tell you that the government consulting job market, which in the past would have offered an opportunity to work for a few more years has dried up. I imagine that a crunch will hit at some point and that instead of hiring GS employees, the Government will end up bringing a lot of contractors onboard to plug holes. But a dysfunctional government is a feature not a bug, so who knows.

Also affected are all those DC area businesses - clothiers, coffee shops, dry cleaners - all those satellite businesses that revolve around workers who need new clothes, hair cuts, restaurants who rely on the lunch trade…
but they’re all little people, so tech bros don’t care

I have entertained the idea that at least part of the DOGE bullshit was a long con to create a shorting opportunity on DC-metro housing.
The banks did it with redlining, this would really be no different.

One of the many great acts of hubris and folly committed during the 2003 invasion of Iraq was “de-Bathification”. This act of blind stupidity led directly to the formation of ISIS. Between all of the high ranking military officers Kegbreath summarily fired and the quarter million government employees cashiered, I think we have the makings of a real insurgency. Drawing additional divisions from the millions who marched recently to put a million people in Washington would be more than enough to shut it down and then drive out, or hang, the whole pack of fascist traitors to our Constitution.

Also, there are huge numbers of people who work for government contractors, or for universities and other non-government organizations that receive government funding. The total number of layoffs across the country through May is up 80% vs the same period last year.

And that doesn’t even anccount for all the people who were not laid off but are retiring early or quitting because they don’t want to deal with what the government is becoming.
