Murkowski Launches Reelection Bid In Face Of Trump’s Wrath | Talking Points Memo

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) announced on Friday morning that she’s running for reelection in the 2022 midterms as her party’s leader goes on a warpath to oust every pro-impeachment Republican lawmaker from Congress.

Good for her.

(Even though I still wouldn’t vote for her, even if I lived in her state.)

Maybe fatboy will trek to Alaska to stump for her opponent. Nah.

He’ll just send greeting to microtargetted low information individuals who would not otherwise bother to vote. We will know that this is working for him if he does decide to go the Alaska shortly before the election. He hates being photographed with a loser.

Only if there is enough abject, fawning sycophancy.

Oh, yes, and if there are a whole lot of bad headlines he was to distract from.

The writing is on the wall. Even when a few Trump-endorsed candidates win elections, the majority do not. Murkowski’s internal numbers likely drive her re-election bid. Trump is becoming last week’s leftovers.

And when she wins again, what will people make of TFG’s petulant childish “wrath”?

Lisa Murkowski, doesn’t owe the Dotard anything, actually she doesn’t owe the GOP anything at all either; the other way around they owe her the fact that she didn’t declare herself independent and caucused with Dems.

Didn’t she win last time as an (I)?

No, it was as a write-in:

I’m honestly surprised she didn’t switch parties given that ‘maverick’ is her schtick anyway.

I find it strange and just a bit uncomfortable when I vocally support a Republican incumbent for any office, but Murkowski is a very good exception to the rule. She is a Republican, but she is a Republican that is not infected with Trumpism, and has proven to everyone on many occasions that she is someone who can and will work with Democrats to advance the common good of the USA, and is not beholden to only one America First POV. IOW, she is not a puppet. Since Alaska is a Red State to the degree it is, I wish her well.

There are more like Murk. But they are fearful to reveal themselves.

Perhaps. He could go visit his pal Vlad first.

She should. (Declare herself to be an independent and caucus with the Dems.)

It’s worth noting that Alaska changed their primary system. Starting next year, they have an all-comers primary. The top four from whatever party go to the general election, which then has ranked choice voting. So she doesn’t have to worry about losing a Republican primary next year.

AFTER the election. Dems ( or perceived Liberals) won’t win any vote in Alaska for US Sen. any time soon. Even if she did caucus with Dems, that would remove tons of support she currently receives from her constituents. If she wins and caucuses with Dems, this will be her last term. Sad to say…

Thanks for the insight and welcome.

While I mostly like her, although I haven’t forgotten the games she played with her vote for ACB, I really hope this results in GOPers splitting their vote and the Democrat winning. She’s one of the few good Republicans left, but at the end of the day, she’s still a Republican who mostly votes with the Republicans and would happily vote for McConnell to be Majority Leader again.

Only if someone else pays for it and we taxpayers don’t have to anymore.
