‘More To Come’: House Republicans Brace For Even More Retirements

House Republicans are blaming their status as the minority party for the first time in eight years for the recent slew of retirement announcements, which some predict could have a damaging impact on efforts to retake the House, Politico reported.

Well, that’s just odd.

I don’t remember in any recent history an entire minority party forcing a more minority status on its party because it was a minority party…

Wouldn’t you think staying and encouraging others of the same party to run and defeat the majority party would be a better strategy?

You know - like the Dems did for the 2018 midterms?

They’re a bunch of fucking bullies and cowards and they’re running out the door to grab the lobbyist gigs before the whole ramshackle GOP castle falls on their heads in Nov 2020.

Meanwhile, in the Senate, more and more of the GOP #treason caucus are signing up for racist dog-whistles, gerrymandering, vote suppression, and outright blackmail–because they know that if they lose the Senate, a whole damn bunch of them are going to go to jail.

Gangsters and thieves.

“I believe there will be more to come,” Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) told Politico. “Being in the minority weighs on members’ decision-making. … It is a new reality for many.”

Being a workin’ man sucks, Tom. Sad.

The cowardice is simply amazing. Being a chickenhawk starts at the top, guys. Don’t “like” being in the minority - give me a f-ing break!!! And I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s mainly men so far. Egos of glass.

Wait, whut? Mike McCaul might be retiring? They drew his district especially for him, why would he leave a lifetime appointment?

Great thread. Slightly O/T, but maybe not:

Except they got nothing to run on. They can try to run on tRump’s unpopular agenda but most of the people leaving don’t think they can sell that shit anymore to their constituents. I suspect tRump’s too toxic even to a whole lot of conservative Republicans in the burbs. They can’t defend tRump nor can they run without his support. If they go against him, they’ll experience the wrath of tRump and his minions.

Having no agenda - except obstruction - has never stopped them before. But your point is well taken. It’s certain more obvious than usual.

Which makes me believe that this bullshit about “The GOP Senators would never convict in an Impeachment Trial” is just that: Bullshit.

Senators have a different well to get votes than Reps.

BUT THEY STILL NEED VOTES.

Thank you. Aside from the distaste of being in the minority, the insanity and depravity of Rump is really what’s pulling them away. Some of these Rethugs have paid lots of money out of their own pockets to get elected. But now, they’re not only fighting against the Democrats but their own leader as well. Every single one of them know that Rump is uncontrollable. Even in districts where the Rethugs are ascendant, they know that Rump will only work to save Rump. That’s it. If they see that their constituents don’t like Rump, they can’t really fight him. And his presence is only a positive thing in areas that are completely disconnected from reality.

No. There’s still a disconnect with some voters between their Reps. and their Senators. There are very few Senators who will vote for impeachment. Very few. Senators rely on his good graces entirely. If their State is primarily rural and/or low income, they won’t go against him. If their State is heavily suburban, they’ll find a way to massage what he’s saying.

Yes.

Reading this makes me think about the uncomfortable noises GOPers are making about Ratliffe’s nomination to Dan Coates’s position–or, more precisely, the reasons they’re giving for the uncomfortable noises. It’s not hard to imagine just enough Republicans to make the leap from those reasons to voting for impeachment and in so doing not only become a hero/heroine for putting country over party but also maybe give themselves a boost with voters (Susan Collins would be a good possibility here, I’d imagine).

Checking Ballotpedia the list for the House is 9 Republicans and 3 Democrats not seeking re-election for 2020. Someone asked the other day.

Who’s the guy in the picture illustrating this article? Why do they always have that creepy/douchebag look? Maybe as Orwell said, by age 50 everyone has the face he deserves…
