More Evidence Ties Failed Census Change To GOP Gerrymandering Efforts | Talking Points Memo

A now-deceased GOP gerrymandering expert was even more involved in the Trump administration’s failed attempt to add a census citizenship question than was previously known, according to new evidence released Tuesday from House Democrats’ investigation into the move.

So the Trump Administration got caught lying (this time in Court) again.

I hate to sound cynical, but I’m beginning to suspect the GOP might not be…entirely…trustworthy.

(Too harsh?)

Without gerrymandering Republicans have nothing.

Rather than seeking the votes of latinos through policies, the GOP sought to disenfranchise them. It’s part of their brand.

It’s their nature – sorta like the scorpion who stings the turtle helping him get across the stream.

Imagine how long orientation takes for new hires in this administration. First they have to be taught which desk in theirs, where the bathroom and commissary is and how to wear their ID badges, which is 15 minutes.

But it takes a week to teach them all the lies they must defend and the backstory to all the lies. Must be exhausting.

Every word the GOP says is a lie, and that includes “a”, “and”, and “the”.

I would hope that Judge Furman not only issue monitary sanctions, but he issues an Order to Show Cause why the lawyers in question should not be referred to their respective Bar associations for sanctions for dishonesty in court filings. It is notable that some of the career staff refused to go forward with this case, and as such the lawyers who did sign the pleadings, lie to the court, knew what they were getting into.

The only real response by the Court’s to dishonesty by the Trump administration is to start taking personal actions against any lawyer who signs something dishonest. Clearly sanctions against the government (paid for by you and I) are not doing the trick…

This really goes to separation of powers. The administration was caught hiding clearly relevant documents to a case and lying about it.

If the Courts want to still be seen as a co equal branch, they need to come down hard on this behavior.

If they are fine being a subservient branch under the control of whichever party can stack it with the most co-partisan judges, then they’ll let this pass.

This will be the Roberts Courts most long lasting legacy.
