Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin expressed that he has no concerns surrounding the legality of President Trump’s executive orders on coronavirus relief, during an interview on Fox News Sunday.
" a reduction from its previous run at $600 a week — that also asks states to cover 25% of the cost."
Yet in passing at one point this morning, the news was it was increased per I think Forbes. Classic bullshit. Trump is going to declare it a win when the people are losing.
I remember a Margarita deal in my restaurant in the early 80s. They were 1.00 USD normally. New Manager came in, increased the price to 1.75 USD, then posted a special at a 1.50 USD. The special never went away. Lost the regulars, but hooked the one timers. The regulars never came back because they knew they were being screwed. In the end, tactics like that lead to the failure of the entire chain.
See, this was the gamble all along — that Dem’s would lose their shit and start carrying on about suits and SCOTUS and unconstitutionality. Then, as the pubbies would have had it, the press would have covered the controversy, not the facts surrounding the action.
But the Dem’s didn’t take the bait and now Mnuchin is left with superannuated talking points. “You guys better not file suits (Gee, throw us a bone and file a suit.)”
The Democrats have a lot of explaining to do for what is clearly an unconstitutional act? Really? How about 162,000 US deaths from covid-19 with estimates of 97,500 due to President Trumps inactions as well as those of his Cabinet Administration and the Republican Party who control the Senate and should have stopped him. The Press should not allow the President and his sycophants to breath without answering that question. And while we’re at it, ask every Republican Senator and House member if they believe the President has the constitutional authority to take this action - yes or no. Get it on the record for the future. And meanwhile, Russian and Chinese interventions into our election process is now on the record for this cycle, and the White House is silent. In the past, that would have been an act of war against this country. So much for the Republican reputation for a strong defense…
The Dems are going to have a field day with Trump’s promise to eliminate the payroll tax (almost entirely) – driving Social Security and Medicare into (almost) immediate bankruptcy with no plan to fund them. (Not to mention that people will be expected to pay back all the “deferred” taxes). Trump’s proposal will leave an over 10 trillion dollar hole in the federal budget over the next 10 years – making Pelosi’s 3 trillion dollar proposal seem like chicken feed.
As far as the “unemployment” thing goes – I suspect that a governor will sue to prevent that from being implemented because it arbitarily requires states to kick in cash in order to get the benefit – at a time when states budgets are already in crisis thanks to Covid.
When asked Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace about Sasse’s comment that characterizes Trump’s executive order as an “unconstitutional slop,” Mnuchin claimed that they were cleared by the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel.
Dump’s move yesterday was pure political theater, and NOT policy, that was proven by Larry Kudlow getting emasculated this morning by fill-in host Dana Bash on State of the Union. He was made to look like a complete fool.
