Bring in corporate America. And bring it hard. And I say that as a person who lives in Georgia
Wow! That was quick. No hemming and hawing, no whimpering or pleading, just a tough decision that is sure to make all the neo-Nazis, KKKers, and other Republicans angry. I’m seriously impressed with MLB and its Commish. Spine! Amazing: They did the right thing
That move is definitely a Home Run!
Between this and the Georgia GOP revoking tax breaks for Delta (based in Atlanta) over their condemnation, I’m interested to see how this shakes out. It’s one thing to set yourself against the majority of public opinion, but if Corporate America starts pushing back, they may actually take notice.
Maybe they’ll all be flying out on Delta and neither to ever return. It’s the beginning of socking it to Georgia.
This ought to put their beliefs in markets and free enterprise to the test for good,., not.
Well that’s special. It’s certainly a start.
Now threaten to pull the Braves, Hawks and Falcons out of GA, and maybe the message will hit home.
I hate that there’s not a better way to punish the state. This hurts ATL. The voter suppression law is designed to specifically hit ATL. I just hate that they’re getting attacked by their own state government and now by everyone else when it was the good people of ATL who delivered us from Mitch McConnell as Majority Leader.
Hot damn. I didn’t MLB would actually do it, and were concern trolling us with the usual performative bullshit. Delta, Coca-Cola, take note. Delta, you can decide that the legislators and their staffers who passed this bill don’t get to fly on your planes. Coca-Cola, you can embargo syrup deliveries.
Well.
This may nudge some people from off the sidelines.
What happens when a premium free agent says the Braves, Falcons, etc are not on my list.
How might the GA state legislature respond?
They revoked some tax breaks for Delta. That can be reversed. But the voting suppression laws will still be there. They’re not going to give up what they created so easily.
MLB puts the issue squarely in front of the Country.
Republicans at best will just be trickier in their new laws. Keep the spotlight on them.
Whereas not having to pretend to do that is the entire point of their “cancel culture” schtick.
The house passed it, the senate let it die.
I just wonder what that petty a$$ lege is going to try and do to MLB. They are just doubling down on stupid…over and over and over.
Take water from voters standing in line? You get $$$ taken away from your locality. Your move, GA.
That is wildly unrealistic and would be a slam dunk contract violation that among other things would require the refund of 100s of millions of dollars of franchise fees.
The usual. Premium free agents have much say over where they go, thus the LA advantage in recruiting.
I totally agree. good on them.
While they are on a roll maybe they can get rid of the DH as well!
