To be more correct, it wasnāt backed by the military leadership. Successful coups dāetat begin with support from the people who have the authority to order the troops out of the barracks: generally speaking, at least colonels. Better yet, generals. Trump had a lot more support among the junior enlisted and junior officers than Iām comfortable with.
