Two former Ohio militiamen have pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess unregistered explosive devices, the U.S. attorney for Ohio’s southern district announced Friday.
“They really thought that this country was going to be invaded one day,” a man who said he was a former member of the militia told Cincinnatti station WCPO in June.
And United Sheepdogs were going to save us?
Were the names Rottweilers and Bulldogs already taken or something?
“Ryan King and Randy Goodman, according to a February grand jury indictment, were two of approximately 12 members of the United Sheepdogs of Ohio militia group.”
And for pity’s sake, can we stop calling them ‘militia’ members? As someone pointed out on a thread last week, they are not associated with any government and won’t be called out in a time of war. In fact, I doubt they could walk to their nearest National Guard Armory, much less find it.
These are nativists, separatists, racists, fascists,

Ohio. Were they expecting an invasion from Indiana? Though, thinking about that, I’d have built some nukes.
Stories like this remind me of the linked item which happened shortly after I returned to the part of the country where I grew up. Oh and of that story of the nutty ‘Hutarees’ up in Michigan - always as incompetent as they are nuts.
This wouldn’ have happened if there were more facilities to house the mentally ill. We don’t have an unregistered explosives problem, we have a mental health problem.
Used to be that farmers in Vermont could get dynamite very easily. Lots of rock to smash and stumps to remove on ledgy, foresty farms.
Some really took to it as the labor saving device it was intended to be. I know of a guy who used to loosen the latch on the door of a manure slurry holding tank.
So while these guys were preparing for an invasion one day these other folks on the other side of the globe, that were living in actual war zone did this:
Before you point and laugh about the name, educate yourselves:
Sheepdog United is created by Sheepdogs, for Sheepdogs and the people who support them. To fully understand Sheepdog United one must first know what a “Sheepdog” is. The term Sheepdog is a common phrase among Police, Military and Firefighting personnel and it originates from the idea that there are three types of people in the world. First, there are “sheep”, gentle and productive people who only harm one another by accident. Second are the “wolves”, cunning, hostile and deceiving creatures who prey on the vulnerable Sheep. Third are the brave “Sheepdogs” who protect the sheep from wolves and the dangerous perils of life. The efforts of a Sheepdog are never-ending yet often go unnoticed and frequently taken for granted. Our goal at Sheepdog United is to unify the different types of Sheepdogs and their supporters together under one label to recognize Sheepdogs as the heroes they truly are.
