The vice president of the United States is also the President of the Senate. This is where the tie comes in. But Lin-seed already lost this battle in Georgia. I think it’s a punt by Pence. Delay until he has time to put up a few trial balloons to see which course of action will get him that sweet, sweet seat at the Resolute Desk.

I play bass trombone in a competing British Brass Band. We’re coming into the competition season, culminating in the North American Championship in Huntsville, AL in April. Missing rehearsals right now is a good way to place yourself on the s*** list with your section mates and the music director.

Getting on the MD’s s*** list is a good way to get disinvited from the contests. The rules are pretty strict about band make-up: 28 brass players total, 5 percussion, and 1 director are all that is allowed on stage. I don’t see how they make 5 trombones fit, so I expect at least one person to not make the final roster.

What does the Speech and Debate Clause have to do with conversations with the President? He never spoke or debated on the Senate or House Floor. Plus, the clause applies to the Legislative Branch, not the Executive Branch.

Pence fighting the subpoena probably has a lot to do with trying to build up is MAGAt appeal.

He will also lose the subpoena fight, but I suspect Pence has calculated that fighting the subpoena makes J6 come back up at an inopportune time for Trump regarding the primary timing

Apologies if someone said this first, but doesn’t the “speech and debate clause“ privilege belong to Congress? And specifically, if Pence is claiming based on the vice president‘s role as president of the senate, why can’t the Senate just vote to waive that privilege? Put another way, the Senate should vote to waive that privilege!

That’s an important reminder. Even if Pence atextually assumed the status of an adjunct Senator when he’s serving as POTS, 99% of what they want to ask him about happened at the White House. And Lindsay Graham’s dumb lawsuit proves the point that you can’t claim privilege for that kind of stuff.
