Midwest Governors Partnership To Reopen | Talking Points Memo

Like their colleagues to the east and west, seven governors from the Midwest region announced Thursday that they are partnering up to coordinate guidelines on reopening the economies in their states. The move comes as President Trump is prepared to announce guidelines to begin reopening the economy at the end of the month.

Did they get permission from the Big Orange Kahuna? They need his “absolute authority,” right?

Iowa is too busy trying to collate their caucus results to join.

Considering that Ohio’s governor is planning to reopen the state on 5/1, we’re about to find out.

Why do I get the feeling that the governors are forced into dividing the country into “regions” similar to Hunger Games districts to survive?

Duh…we do not have a POTUS…
We only have a Back-Up Prez who behaves like a POUTus-IMPeetus but really wants to be a k-I-n-g!

Midwestern sensibility vs. Mango Mussolini…

Between this group, the east coast one and the west coast one, I’m guessing were talking 75% of the national economy?

As well as all the west coast and great lakes ports, if it comes to that…

Thank you Governor Pritzker.

Who gives two rat shits what he thinks?

I don’t; many of my State’s citizens don’t.

He can go pound sand. I’m proud of my governor and the others for putting this together and moving forward.

ETA: that’s seventeen States taking precautions. Ride or die, the rest of you.

Hmmmm… It’s interesting that DeWine chose to leak the May 1st beginning target date. I wonder if this will hamstring any of the other governors?

If he doesn’t want to play nicely, he can go sit in the corner.

Seriously though, it shouldn’t hamstring them, but so much for unity.

The way the order is WI is written,

Gov. Tony Evers has directed Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Andrea Palm to extend the Safer at Home order from April 24 to May 26 or until a superseding order is issued.

Bold is mine. So it could be sooner if we can just bend the curve, which WI hasn’t done. It’s not a bad order, some things can re-open on conditions.

Evers is dealing with the Wisconsin GOP crank politicians. ditto Grisham in Michigan. (by chance, both key swing states). these fuckers are evil.

Ohio Gov. Mike Dewine (R): “I am an optimist and am confident that Ohioans will also live up to the challenge of doing things differently as we open back up beginning on May 1st.”

He keeps using that word. I do not think it means what he thinks it means.

True, but the odds are that Wisconsin isn’t going to completely open up on May Day.

Until DeWine clarifies, he backs Trump’s current stance.

I can see it in maybe four weeks.

But if the rules include having appropriate testing in place, Wisconsin will have issues meeting that, along with all the other States, whether in the pact or not.

The testing kits are seriously the sticking point here, no pun intended. I don’t know when we get enough to do the job properly.

Well this is no longer necessary, since King Donnie of Orange has released his “guidelines”…
