“I don’t recall a request for [federal] monitoring of [local] elections”
Republicans have no use for State’s Rights when they have Big Federal Government.
Evidently, previous Republican administrations in Michigan failed to establish law and order when they were elected to do so. “Michigan’s homicide rate has been higher than the national average every year in the last two and a half decades.”
Of course, for Republicans, this isn’t about law and order. It’s about power and money only.
Here in Michigan, the election law assumes there is no such thing as an unbiased or nonpartisan person. Every sensitive task is performed by two poll workers, of different partisanship, working together. Moreover, in a highly contested race, they are watched by challengers sent by the parties.
Michigan’s election system is more decentralized than any state except Wisconsin. City and township clerks design precinct boundaries, choose polling places, hire poll workers, send and receive absentee ballots. County clerks receive filings, train poll workers, program and print ballots, and coordinate tabulation and certification. The state of course receives and combines statewide tallies, of course, but their big job is training all the local clerks.
Michigan has rarely ever had any election scandal, or any significant problems caused by election officials. And every county clerk, and every township clerk, is elected on the partisan ballot.
The Florida model is to elect nonpartisan “election supervisors” instead of partisan county clerks. You really think Florida’s system works better than ours?
Republicans across the US have been reduced to performative monkeys tossing excrement against walls in the hope that something sticks. Rather pathetic.
