County prosectors in Michigan can enforce a 91-year-old abortion ban, the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled Monday.
I imagine we’ll be seeing a lot more of this in Michigan and especially in red states.

Michigan went for Trump in 2016. The GOP dominates the legislature. That is not a blue state. Look also at the courts and the counties. Detroit may be blue, but Detroit is only part of Michigan
What SCOTUS did with ROE was a shot across the bow. Those who have not figured this out are passengers, not participants.
I understand the point you’re making but Dobbs wasn’t a shot across the bow. It was a strike to the crew quarters. It wasn’t a miss. It was outright damage to the vessel of state
We need to start asking all Republican state office holders, and candidates, at what point in the rise of maternal and fetal deaths do you guys want to revisit your position? Give me a damn number!
Their likely response: Never tell me what the data say!
Agreed. Wrong choice of words.
The easy response to this is, “we are saving lives by preventing women from murdering their fetus.”
The fact that anti-abortionists want to eliminate the “life of the mother” exception because they feel it’s a loophole should make clear they just don’t have the same values we do.
The number is not always a number, it cab be an experience. When they have loved ones die or almost die because of their inhumane law… then some (a disheartening small percentage) will change their mind and declare “they’ve seen the light”.
Similar to the GOP anti-LGBTQ politicians who see the light and now support LGBTQ rights when their “normal, wholesome” child comes out.
These fuckers seem to be depending on equal amounts of apathy (us) and cheating (them)…otherwise, they are insanely insensitive to real suffering of their sisters, wives, daughters and all of the men connected with them.
Don’t be so cynical. Justice [sic] Alito assured us that “And to ensure that our decision is not misunderstood or mischaracterized, we emphasize that our decision concerns the constitutional right to abortion and no other right. Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.”
Contraception, same-sex marriage, interracial marriage, and all other personal rights based on a 14th Amendment implied right to privacy are settled law and secure under the doctrine of stare decisis. /s
Alito’s opinion in Dobbs is littered with that response: "abortion is fundamentally different, as both Roe and Casey acknowledged, because it destroys what those decisions called “fetal life” and what the law now before us describes as an ‘unborn human being’.”
The six member majority has just legislated the concept of “fetal personhood” from the bench.
We must never forget that many men are feminists and many women are not.
I don’t say that ironically. This is fact.
I think your understanding of your understanding is overstated. A shot across the bow is not a miss. It is a threat, and one for which the wherewithal to carry it out has been demonstrated.
Did you seriously think I don’t know that?
You think Dobbs is not a blow to human rights? It’s just a threat that actual damage could be coming?
Wow. Just wow.
Their answer–if a woman dies it’s God’s Will.
And that is the answer I see posted from a couple of my brainwashed female relatives…
In 100 years there will be artificial wombs and placentas, rendering all this null. You’ll just donate an egg and sperm, and come back in 9 months and pick up your kid.
That is precisely what they were all appointed to do - make new laws by rendering those laws favored by libs to be unconstitutional. Also to render state legislatures immune from judicial oversight on their actions. The US Constitution does not pertain to the actions of state legislatures. That opinion is awfully damn close to complete sovereignty for each and every US state. That opinion will enable the end of America as it has ever been.
There’s no tech outside of an actual human body that would mimic gestation. The hormonal signals, the sharing of antibodies. You would need to literally create a sacrificial human being
In 1890 no one would have believed replacing a person’s heart. Medical science continues to amaze me, and a lot can happen in 100 years.
I’m fully aware of that. Maybe more so than you since I’m a technologist. If you think I’m saying that creating a sacrificial human being is impossible, you’ve missed my point. My point is not that it’s impossible, but that it’s immoral
