The sex trafficking allegation against Gaetz that the feds investigated was not that he was moving the underage girl across state lines. It was that he paid the girl via Venmo, which moves the funds across state lines. That’s the interstate commerce clause hook that would have made it a federal charge.
ETA: And TX-23 is close enough that it could actually be a pickup opportunity if November’s wave arrives as expected, especially with these two assholes as the GOP frontrunners.
