Medical Orgs Urge Trump To Invoke Defense Production Act To Help With Supplies | Talking Points Memo

Health care professionals from the American Hospital Association (AHA), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the American Nurses Association (ANA) sent a joint letter to President Donald Trump on Saturday pleading for more medical supplies amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Truth be told…Irresponsible+Incompetent+ IMPeetus Trump should have prepared for the pandemic since he was briefed last Jan & Feb.

BTW, Trump plays favorite with medical supplies with his new home state FL getting all the N95 mask they wanted…with those electoral votes in mind!

Florida, a state of 21 million, got all 180,000 N95 masks it wanted .
Oregon, a state of 4 million, only received 40,000 of the 400,000 masks it requested,

and New Jersey, a state of 9 million, got 85,000 of the 2.9 million masks it feels it needs.ā€

Update:

While medical personnel are running out of PPE like masks…ICE deportation team is asking for 45k masks :rage::rage::rage:!

Why not just pretend that he has already told them to do that, provide him with the order, and have him sign it? They could come in and say ā€œRemember, people have been calling all day praising you for doing thisā€ and he would sign it in a heartbeat. Someone there must realize how serious this is.

This was a decision of his that I just didn’t ā€œgetā€. Once he finally got talked into reluctantly admitting that this thing was real, I don’t understand his rationale for not making a decision.

Unless - with Trump it is always ā€œunlessā€ - he has been trying to blackmail someone (Pelosi?) into giving him something that benefits him and his reelection. In his book, it is clear that no price is too much for the citizens of the country to pay for his personal welfare, after all.

He should have done that a month ago. But frankly, I expected nothing less from him than the nothing that he did.

The White House did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Trump has tried to brush off reports of supply response shortages and insisted that he and his administration is doing a ā€œtremendous jobā€ with the coronavirus outbreak responses to requests for comment.

ā€œEven with an infusion of supplies from the strategic stockpile and other federal resources, there will not be enough medical supplies, including ventilators, to respond…"

Seems the only thing not yet depleted is our Strategic Moron Stockpile.

(That one’s currently maintained at the White House, and its bottomless.)

I’m shocked and surprised.

I think of the allegation of ā€˜incompetence’ as a place holder for ā€˜malicious neglect.’
By accepted conventions, the media can’t use the latter term in the absence of incontrovertible evidence. Unfortunately for us, that won’t be forthcoming until there’ve been investigative hearings in Congress.

Held in contempt by all those he has met
Always aggrieved, against all reason set
Guilty of treason, he was Vlad Putin’s prize
Faithless to his country, to the press he lies.
In doubt, in fear in ignorance he acts.
Surrounded by toadies, defended from facts,
Hail to the Chief! May he choke on his Big Macs.

In lieu of having a public reading of your work you’ll have to do YouTube presentations. Seriously I have a writer friend who does those readings all the time. I’ll have to send her a condolence note because she really seems to get a kick out of it. :slightly_frowning_face:

As far as I can tell from yesterday’s press conference, Trump has been trying to suggest he’s invoked this act when he’s done no such thing. You have to assume he’s actively trying to stymie production for some pathological reason of his own. It’s just staggering that this is happening.

He is literally obstructing emergency efforts in our country. It’s almost like he’s taking orders from one of our adversaries…because he’s not listening to any American experts in any form.

It’s possible he believes this will somehow help him win in November? Nothing else makes any sense to me.

See above. It would fit with all the rest.

Oregon and New Jersey are in a better position to re-use them by washing, sanitizing or sterilizing them, may be? I recall that in the White House press conference, our Russian-elected President Skanky, who is one of the smartest people known – his parents were klan members who got arrested for rioting but his uncle was at MIT – and is also right about a lot of things like medicines and viruses – mentioned that there should be more sanitizing, sterilizing, recycling and reuse of masks. Tony Fauci, who is only slightly less smart than the President and corrects him, did not correct him on this.
