There were Americans at the WHO for exactly that reason — exchange of information on developments and potential threats. I strongly suspect that it will come out that they were sounding alarms early on. Not that Trump paid any attention.

The thing is we don’t even know who wrote the letter. Trump almost certainly didn’t, one of his toadies likely did, with, I’ll bet, little or no input from the CDC. So, I won’t ding the The Lancet. The interesting thing is that this plays into the hands of the Chinese, who have deplored the letter and who now can say that the letter is not only unfair to China, but full of fabrications.
China described Trump’s letter as slanderous and health experts said Trump’s criticisms of the WHO could only be effectively addressed by giving the WHO new powers over the health policies of nation states, something Trump would resist if they were applied to the US.
And also, Mike Pence just confirmed that he is NOT taking HCQ.

When “Germany” consisted of 40 kilometers by 20 kilometers in Berlin, people were not so much interested in
“WHY did we get into this mess and HOW did we do that???”
They were interested in survival (dodging bullets, artillery, busted water mains, etc).
That’s what Trump wants: so much death, unemployment, poison, corruption, racism, tribalism, starvation and conflict–as a direct result of every action he has taken in 2020– that the last thing we will be thinking about is blaming the one man responsible for it all:
Because Trump knows that the procedures surrounding holding a sitting president responsible for incompetence and criminality take a great amount of time and effort
