Same here. My friend is an MD I used to car pool with for years - we became quite close. With the advent of Trump, he became a Democrat and has been active in local politics (mostly to no avail - most Mormons would rather shoot Joseph Smith than vote for a Democrat.
A few months ago the head of the LDS church, a retired heart surgeon, made a plea for common sense precautions like wearing masks and getting vaccinated. It put the Church into open rebellion. My friend, who is still a believer, was almost in tears at the thought of the majority of his fellow Mormons rebelling against their own spiritual leader.

Blunt just followed the lead from the Turtle. McConnell said the same thing when he announced he would not vote to convict on the second impeachment (since it might hurt his personal grip on power).

I keep imagining the day when we start talking about what is right and not what is legal. One thing you will never see in any Republican anything anymore is a discussion of what is the right thing to do - like acknowledging that someone has won an election or admitting that vaccines have saved millions of lives. It just doesn’t occur to them. Bringing up ethics and morality in today’s Republican party is a career killer.

Yes, if it were a Democrat, it would be a bigger deal. The MSM is never allowed to do any kind of follow up story on Republican malfeasance, lest they be accused by Republicans of being biased against the Republicans who are still going to accuse them of being biased against Republicans anyway.
