Trump loyalist Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) made a bizarre argument on Wednesday while dismissing Acting Ambassador to Ukraine Bill Taylor’s damning public testimony in the impeachment investigation.
That’s all right, Mark, there’s an easy fix available to you. Request the chair subpoena the as-yet-unnamed staffer. Then you can ask direct questions to assuage your discomfort.
“I think what happens is when we start to look at the facts, everybody has their impression of what truth is,” he added. “Just like all of you as reporters have your impression of what truth is.”
“And reasonable people can disagree on what constitutes and what does not constitute treason.”
Meadows raises a good point - clearly people will have different opinions on the validity of the testimony. However, I’m sure we can all agree that Meadows is a lying asshole.
Trump screwed the pooch in the beginning of his defense when he ordered everybody to stonewall. There will be one set of witnesses (the prosecution) and the defendant won’t have any response. That means we are free to conclude Trump really agrees with the prosecution witnesses. Taylor and Kent are doing a great job laying out the prosecution case. There is really only one version of the story coming to light.
Yes…the alternative fact lobby. I heard that one before. Daniel Patrick Moynihan said it best, ‘You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.’
Bullshit Mr Meadows. We have what the White House released of the call btw trump and Zelensky. That is truth, not impression. Your dear leader will be impeached. That also will be truth. Wether he is convicted is a guess but it may be enough senators will put country before self and vote to convict. It remains to be seen.
