McConnell Shouts Into The Void/Urges Johnson To Allow Vote On Ukraine Aid - TPM – Talking Points Memo

A handful of Senate Republicans tried to be the adults in the room after Donald Trump convinced a good chunk of their party’s members of Congress to do nothing to address issues at the border so that he has something to whack President Biden with on the campaign trail. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was joined by 21 of his colleagues to help pass a $95.3 billion foreign aid package — without border provisions — early Tuesday morning, which includes crucial aid for Ukraine.

Dare I to say, Mitch McConnell is no longer in charge.

Of anything.

He should’ve retired last election when he was still on top. Now, he’s going to be ineffective and useless as any kind of leader, which may well become his legacy.

He has NOT been assimilated by the Borg and will be an outsider for the duration.

History settles every account. And today, on the value of American leadership and strength, history will record that the Senate did not blink.”

The Senate has been blinking for quite some time going back to what should have have been a slam dunk on two impeachments. Their lack of foresight pertaining to the gravitas of allowing a psychotic to run amok is coming home to roost. If we do happen to have elections after this November ,many of these fools are going to be out on their ass.

Mitch - may also be explaining - Trump doing what he is doing gets treated like rough & tumble politics …

a relative pissant like Johnson killing aid to an ally - and in doing so very clearly providing a huge huge GIFT to a very dangerous adversary - well a pissant like Johnson will be indelibly seen as a traitor and an agent of Russia … when, when in the past 75 years could a politician take such a dramatic action to harm the world standing of the United States - and so dramatically give symbolic political and wilitary support to RUSSIA ?? never!

Johnson is potentially giving hundreds - thousands of times more support to Russia than various spies over the years -

WHAT DOES A RUSSIAN SYMPATHIZER LOOK LIKE?

I hope I live long enough to hear about how that happened. There is a story there, a story that needs to be told.

I read the story about registering to vote in TX. Though I don’t live in TX, and have never lived in TX, I can’t help but think that what a hassle the TX Trib reporter had to go through.
I got nabbed at my high school in 1980 on my way to lunch. Someone from the League of Women voters asked me if I would 18 by the next election, I said yes. I filled out card. I got my voter registration card in the mail several weeks later, and that’s was all I had to do. It was all so simple then.

Let’s not forget that McConnell called the full faith and credit of the USA a hostage worth taking in 2011, in order to win a short term partisan fight. In other words his cheap bare knuckles style caused America’s credit rating to go down thus increasing borrowing costs to go up, risking a second Great Depression. This short term political ploy has forever increased costs to American tax payers, and jeopardized the international financial system.

“ A decade ago, a standoff between Democrats and Republicans over increasing the United States’ authority to borrow brought the country days away from a default and caused a major ratings agency to downgrade its credit for the first time.

In the aftermath, top Senate Republican Mitch McConnell described the debt limit to The Washington Post as “a hostage that’s worth ransoming,” and a decade later, it’s in captivity once again.

The ceiling on how much debt the United States can take on is the subject of fierce negotiations in Washington between Democrats who control Congress but can’t rally enough votes to increase it unilaterally, and Republicans who refuse to vote for any increase at all.

The dispute has unusually high stakes because absent an increase, the United States could default on its bills in October, likely devastating its economy and undercutting a pillar of the international financial system.”

An innocent and noble public servant was impeached for doing his job today by 214 morons with no moral compass. It is a black day in American history, and likely the end of “impeachment” ever being taken seriously again. Trump’s TWO impeachments and Senate acquittals are worn like a Badge of Honor because Trump is a thug and a reprobate by nature. Mayorkas will never feel that way because he is a proud immigrant and a man of honor. POTUS Biden and the Democratic Caucus must now do everything in their power to clear Mayorkas good name, and to excoriate the ReThugs for their dishonorable action.

It’s not hard to register to vote in Texas. Most do it when they first get their drivers license. There are forms available at the DMV.

Apparently that works for some. Perhaps for a naturalized citizen the process has a few snags. I don’t know why that should be.

Is anyone confident that McConnell is actually putting any effort into getting the House to approve the appropriation for Ukraine? There seems to be a fallback position where you claim you did your job, but sadly you could not influence the Trump-approved Speaker of the House to do his.

Did you you read the article? That was attempt #2.

I wonder if the reporter’s name had anything to do with her voter registration just being left in some forgotten stack waiting to be processed (that’s the best spin on the situation, anyway).

McConnell is many things, mostly evil, and I delight in his misery, but one thing he is not, is a Putin toady. He understands perfectly well how important it is for Ukraine to win.
