McConnell, Schumer Still At Impasse | Talking Points Memo

No reason for Nancy and Chuck to fast track this. The daily drip of Trump’s criminality may not change minds in the Senate but it will that of voters.

My post was my attempt to be opposite-thinking optimistic: the notion that the Fourth Estate will eventually come through because the thinkers who are part of the Fourth Estate DO NOT want to be part of the Trump Media Machine.

Moscow McConnell does not want a shred of truth to come out regarding Trump.

THERE

I said it. Most of what we are writing about these days is tap-dancing around that fact. What Moscow McConnell is doing is lock-step obstruction for as long as he can. In that sense, Moscow McConnell is “coordinating” with Trump.

The man who has obstructed in a manner that makes Dick Nixon look like G.W. with the Cherry Tree.

Not written by me but read by me. Various organizations who provide data on Latin American countries come out with yearbooks with the various countries.

McConnell has also signaled he would be fine with no trial at all.

The leader of the swamp is very soft on crime.

He’s fine letting the elites off the hook, with letting innocent citizens get mowed down on the street, and he’s positively begging Russian organized crime to fiddle with our elections.

Can the Union secede from Kentucky?

Do you really think this, or do you think that Trump is a foil Turtle is using to get done the things Turtle wants, like conservative unqualified federal judges, tax cuts that were so poorly written that lobbyist are now doing loopdelooes through the tax code, and not passing anything that is called Trumpcare?

Yes, Mitch, “a quick acquittal” would be the perfect way to cap your complete trashing of the Senate as a legitimate legislative body.

“McConnell has also signaled he would be fine with no trial at all.”

A. Fuck McConnell. May Moscow Mitch burn in hell for what he has done and is doing to our country.

B. Since the Senate majority has made stone cold clear they have no intention of having a real trial, of following the constitution and the impeachment trial specific Oath or Affirmation (oath to be impartial)… then maybe the House should hold onto the impeachment and aggressively pursue rulings on subpoenas to all the traitors that refused to testify

(apparently impeachment is not complete until the House sends the articles of impeachment to the senate, and yes I did classify any and all unwilling to testify as traitors, GD traitors).

And of course our hardworking, welfare-hating farmers that don’t want handouts, are being generously compensated by their support. They’l probably go out and buy a new MAGA hat.

No one makes Mitch’s life more miserable by the day than trump. Ha!
I’m beginning to allow faith hold the door open for Mitch’s demise. Won’t believe it until I see it, but never had more reason to hope than now.
Also wonder how much worse trump’s already bad health will get and how fast.

Lazy journalism is trying mighty hard to make Schumer the focus of this thing instead of McMoscowMitch. Schumer at this point has very little power to demand anything. I doubt schmoozing with McConnell is going to get much accomplished either. It’s Pelosi that is in the driver’s seat, and she’s doing a great job of hanging on tight to that steering wheel.

I watched some of Katy Tur interviewing Rep. Kildee (D-MI 5th Dist.) earlier today. She kept asking him, why won’t Pelosi just turn over the impeachment investigation to Mitch in the Senate if Dems already know he won’t give into their demands as required by the House Dems? She said something like, “isn’t the narrative going to be that the Dems are blocking this thing from moving forward, and isn’t that going to hurt them politically?” Her insistence that he take her question seriously was pathetic, to say the least.

No matter how you slice it, these bozos on cable news always find a way to say that whenever a Rethug refuses to do something required of their ethical, moral or Constitutional duty, its somehow the Democrats fault, or they brought on their own difficulties if Rs just flatout block, ignore or deny basic facts or their inherent obligations to the country. The narrative is what she’s actually pushing by asking stupid questions like these, and to pretend otherwise is just plain disingenuous.

I have no faith in today’s tired old talkingheads trying at all to focus on actual problems with the government. If they would ever go after the corrupting influence of today’s Republicans, specifically for the amount of obstruction, voter suppression tactics and denial of basic facts…I’d, I’d, I’d… Eh, Fuck it. It’ll never happen.

@srfromgr…no worries…Pelosi has more horror stories on these people than both of us do…and she will pay them no mind (and Nancy knows more than we do).

One final thing:

To have to jump through the hoops that Dems have to do PLUS act like the adults in the room makes them stronger.

I also predict that when more Trump/GOP dirt comes out, a lot of GOP CongressCritters will say “bye”.

[McConnell: ‘No chance’ Trump will be removed from office]

THAT is legislative malpractice and should be mentioned repeatedly by Dems.

I just get so pissed the way even the so-called liberal media frames these things between the two parties. There’s an automatic refusal to put any responsibility on the Republicans because of course they’re just trying to stay in tRump’s good graces and get re-elected and since everyone knows that isn’t that all that counts in understanding this stuff.

I think that explains it only so far, as it also seems to excuse the Republicans and let them off the hook for not doing what is morally and ethically required of them as public servants. So as a result, the media just dismisses their culpability in mucking up the works by offering this simple-ass explanation. Then they turn their talkingheads to requiring the Dems fix everything and when they don’t, or can’t, or fall short because of that Republican obstruction, it somehow redounds to the Democrats making it a problem for themselves politically, regardless of them doing what’s in the best interests of the country. I’m just frustrated today. Serves me right for tuning into this political shit after the holidays. I was doing so good ignoring it all for a few days. The second I tune in I can feel my blood boil all over again. I think I should take another break.

At the rate more evidence is coming out, the House just needs to take their time.

Madam Speaker hasn’t missed too many beats on this yet.
