McConnell told WKTY that he will begin talking to Democrats as early as next week, following a delay earlier this week when many Congress members, including some GOP members expected a draft of the bill to be unveiled.
McConnell told WKTY that he will begin talking to Democrats as early as next week
Well what the fuck is taking so long… The Democrats passed the bill in the house months ago, and I am supposed to care that Mitch might start talking to Democrats as early as next week
What’s being left out of this article is that McConnell and some Rs don’t want $600 extra to continue, but $200 is what they want.
Then there’s the fact that members and WH staff are floating around a percentage of an employee’s wage. The problem with that is that most state’s UE computers can’t do percentages, or something like that.
So the people I feel the most for are the ones who who have been trying since March, April, or May to get their UE benefits.
Everything is running out - the $600 a month and the moratorium on evictions - we’re poised to go over a fucking cliff while the GOP and the White House fuck around over bullshit.
The GOP fundamentally believes “the poor” are poor because they did something to deserve it, which is a corollary to their belief that their own wealth must be deserved. It is a weird this-worldly Calvinism that justifies maximal cruelty in times of crisis.
They will throw us a paper towel roll when the cameras are rolling, but then get back into their air-conditioned chauffeur-driven German-made cars and get as far away from reality as possible.
I’m thinking they are dragging this out so the pain is just starting to cause problems and then they both have “leverage” to do something quickly and can claim they saved the day. It feels like the stuff they did back during the last budget shutdown “crisis”.
Democrats have huge leverage here. Seemingly every day, more Republican Senators are becoming vulnerable in terms of their re-election chances.
Senators like Collins, Gardner, Tillis, McSally, Ernst, and several others desperately need happy constituents, and the current McConnell bill doesn’t fit the bill. I think this is posturing by McConnell. He knows he has a weak hand, and so do Pelosi and Schumer.
Their thinking is, the more they delay, the less the Democrats will settle for. And the less they have to spend on the people, the lower will be the taxes on the wealthy.
McTurtle and his minions are going to ride this pandemic for every cent they can make.
I see more Republicans-in-disarray going forward. You have the not up for re-election, narcissistic Ted Cruz types whining about deficit spending up against about a dozen Republican Senators legitimately worried about their chances this November. And, McConnell, the ultimate arbiter, only cares about remaining Majority Leader, so I think he’ll eventually cave.
Spot on. Also this quote from Galbraith:
“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”
Chump is an afterthought as far as election strategy. Hang it all on Moscow Mitch as the defacto leader of the Rs who poured gas on the Chumpfire and actively made things much much worse than they needed to be. You have them under a microscope Dems! This is where they flail around looking for an exit and you catch them in lie after lie while people die. Don’t give them room. I cannot ever remember a party being caught with that stoopid “I’m guilty as hell” look on their face, right before an election, and the other party just quietly lets them get away with it. It is the political theater of ALL TIME and Rs are straight villains from Central Casting. They are chewing the scenery and giving a performance for the ages. It is fresh, timely, in your face telling you to DIE America. All you have to do is get the video and audio snips and assemble them. Come On!
Practice for when they take away Social Security and Medicare. Then what do you do with all the hungry folks with no money? There is more civil unrest coming.
